1 General information
1.1 About these instructions
The powered S-series high-speed spiral door is referred to as the
"system" or "door" in the following.
DANGER!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
an immediately-dangerous situation which could cause
death or severe injuries if not avoided.
WARNING!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a possibly-dangerous situation which could cause
death or severe injuries if it is not avoided.
CAUTION!

slight injuries if it is not avoided.
NOTICE!
This combination of symbol and signal word indicates
a possibly-dangerous situation which could cause
property and environmental damage if it is not avoided.
Special safety instructions The following symbols are used in the safety instructions to draw

use going beyond this is not permitted without the written approval

2 Safety
This section provides an overview of all safety aspects that are
essential to the best possible protection of the personnel and the
safe and trouble-free operation of the machine. Additional safety
instructions for specific work tasks are contained in the sections
regarding the individual life stages of the machine.
WARNING!
Danger in case of improper use!
Improper use of the system can lead to hazardous sit-
uations.
The following activities on or with the system are pro-
hibited:
– Use in emergency escape routes
– Use as part of fire safety facilities
– Use as a lift gate or shaft gate
– Use with faulty parts
– Use of the drive to drive or control other products
– Use in buildings with insufficient static load bearing
capacity
– Use in a potentially explosive environment or an
environment at risk from fire
– Use to separate areas with laser systems
– Fitting the control unit outdoors
– Fitting the control unit in rooms to which children or
unauthorised parties have access
– Crossing the system whilst the door is closing
– Modification and repair of the system or individual
parts without the approval of EFAFLEX Tor- und
Sicherheitssysteme GmbH & Co. KG
– Use of accessories and/or spare parts which have
not been checked and approved by EFAFLEX Tor-
und Sicherheitssysteme GmbH & Co. KG.
– Operating the system with missing safety devices
or safety devices which are not fully functional
– Use of the emergency control function to open
during normal operation
– Lifting and raising objects, animals or personnel
with the help of the door leaf
– Inducing a movement using external force
– Blocking the system using objects or foreign
bodies
– Depositing objects underneath or in the immediate
vicinity of the door
Electrical current
DANGER!
Life-threatening hazard from electric shock!
There is an imminent life-threatening hazard from elec-
tric shocks from live parts. Damage to insulation or to
specific components can pose a life-threatening
hazard.
– Only a qualified electrician should perform work on
the electrical equipment.
– Immediately switch off the power supply and have
it repaired if there is damage to the insulation.
– Before beginning work at live parts of electrical
systems and resources, cut the electricity and
ensure it remains off for the duration of the work.
Comply with the five safety rules in the process:
– cut electricity;
– safeguard against restart;
– ensure electricity is not flowing;
– earth and short-circuit; and
– cover or shield neighbouring live parts.
– Never bypass fuses or render them inoperable.
Always use the correct amperage when changing
fuses.
– Keep moisture away from live parts. Moisture can
cause short circuits.
Moving components
WARNING!
Risk of injury from moving parts.
Moving parts can cause serious injuries.
– Do not reach into moving parts during operation or
or handle moving parts.
– Never open covers during operation.
– Be aware of the automatic closing procedure:
Before crossing the open door, actuate the com-
mand device (Ä Chapter 4.5 ‘Operating controls
and display elements’ on page 24) and observe
the door leaf.
Owner obligations The system is used commercially. The owner of the system is
therefore subject to the legal obligations for occupational health
and safety.
In addition to the safety instructions in these instructions, the regu-
lations for safety, the prevention of accidents and environmental
protection valid for the operational area of the system must be
adhered to.
In particular the following applies:
n The owner must inform himself of the valid occupational health
and safety regulations and in a risk assessment also identify
any hazards which arise as a result of the special working con-
ditions at the location for use of the system. These must be
applied in the form of operating instructions for operation of the
system.
n During the entire period of use of the system the owner must
check whether the operating instructions he has compiled
comply with the current regulations and update the operating
instructions as necessary.
n The owner must clearly organise and define the responsibilities
for installation, operation, fault clearance, maintenance and
cleaning.
n The owner must make sure that all personnel who come into
contact with the system have read and understood these
instructions. In addition, he must provide personnel with
training on proper use, operation, cleaning the door system
and the effect of all safety devices at regular intervals and
inform personnel of the hazards. The training and instructions
must be confirmed in writing by personnel.
n The owner must provide personnel with the required safety
equipment and instruct them on the compulsory wearing of the
required safety equipment.
Further owner obligations The owner is also responsible for making sure that the system is
kept in technically perfect condition. The following therefore
applies:
n Have an annual inspection carried out on the system by a door
specialist.
n Make sure that the maintenance intervals in these instructions
are adhered to.
n Have damage and faulty parts immediately repaired or
replaced by staff authorised by EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheits-
systeme GmbH & Co. KG.
n Have all safety devices checked regularly to make sure they
are fully functional and complete.
n Mark transparent surfaces on the door leaf.
n Make sure that the area in the immediate vicinity of the system
is kept clean and free from obstructions.
n Make sure that there are never any people, animals or objects
in the range of the system when actuating it or whilst the door
leaf is in motion.
WARNING!
Danger of injury if personnel are insufficiently
qualified!
If unqualified personnel perform work on the system or
are in the system's danger zone, hazards may arise
which can cause serious injury and substantial
damage to property.
– Therefore, all work must only be carried out by
appropriately qualified personnel.
– Unqualified personnel must be kept away from the
danger zones.
Operator
The following authorisations and tasks are assigned to the operator
in addition to those of the user:
n Operation of the door system in other modes as well as auto-
matic mode,
n Locking and unlocking the door system (optional),
n Actuation of the operating controls on the control unit,
n Viewing and adjustment (if necessary) of the enabled control
parameters,
n Clearing faults or implementation of measures to clear faults.
Service staff
Service staff are specialist members of staff who have been
trained, instructed and certified by EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheits-
systeme GmbH & Co. KG.
User
The system must only be used by people who are 18 years of age
or older. Minors must only use the system if accompanied by a
person of legal age and if they have been trained on proper use of
the door system by the owner.
The users are assigned the following authorisations and tasks:
n Opening and closing the door using the command devices in
automatic mode,
n Use of the door with vehicles, accompanied or driven by the
user.
WARNING!
Risk to life for unauthorised persons due to haz-
ards in the danger and working zone!
Unauthorised persons who do not meet the require-
ments described here will not be familiar with the dan-
gers in the working zone. Therefore, unauthorised per-
sons face the risk of serious injury or death.
– Unauthorised persons must be kept away from the
danger and working zone.
– If in doubt, address the persons in question and
ask them to leave the danger and working zone.
– Cease work while unauthorised persons are in the
danger and working zone.
2.4.3 Training
The owner must train personnel on a regular basis. Execution of
the training must be logged for better traceability.

Description of the personal protec- The personal protective equipment is explained below:

Chemical-resistant gloves
Chemical-resistant gloves protect the hands from chemicals and
cleaning agents.
Safety footwear
Safety footwear protects the feet from crushing injuries, falling
parts and slipping on a slippery substrate.
WARNING!
Danger to life from nonfunctional safety devices!
If safety devices are not functioning or are disabled,
there is a danger of grave injury or death.
– Check that all safety devices are fully functional
and correctly installed before starting work.
– Never disable or bypass safety devices.
– Ensure that all safety devices are always acces-
sible.

Master switch (with emergency The master switch (with emergency stop function, referred to in the
stop function) following as the "master switch") is a full emergency stop element.
The master switch isolates the system from the power. Movements
are stopped and blocked as quickly as possible.
Traffic detector and manoeuvring If the traffic detector and manoeuvring area monitoring system
area monitoring system detects an obstruction during the closing procedure, the system
stops, opens completely and closes automatically again once the
"keep-open" time has elapsed.
Door light grid (optional) The light grid which is installed in the side of the frame monitors
the closing level exactly, up to a height of 2.5 metres. The light grid
prevents the door from closing when an obstruction is detected.
Light barrier If the light grid is broken during the closing procedure, the system
stops, opens completely and closes automatically again once the
"keep-open" time has elapsed.
Safety strip If the safety strip comes into contact with an obstruction during the
closing procedure, the system stops, opens completely and closes
automatically again once the "keep-open" time has elapsed.
Frame covers The frame covers protect from mechanical hazards and prevent
you from reaching into moving parts.
Belt cover The belt cover protects from mechanical hazards and prevent you
from reaching into moving parts.
Hanging box housing (optional) The housing on the hanging box protects from mechanical hazards
and prevent you from reaching into moving parts.
Optional signalling devices The signalling device warns the user of moving components or
indicates the current operating status. Optical and/or acoustic sig-
nalling devices can be used optionally.
Depending on the signalling device, the following information can
be displayed:
n Warning when a door is closing or opening,
n Active fir alarm or warning that a fire barrier is closing,
n Indication that the door is ready for operation,
n Indication that there is a fault on the door,
WARNING!
Risk of fatal injury if the system is switched back
on without authorisation or in an uncontrolled
manner!
If the system is switched on without authorisation or in
an uncontrolled manner, serious or even fatal injuries
may be caused.
– Before switching on, make sure that all safety
devices are fitted and fully functional and that there
are no hazards for personnel.
– Always adhere to the procedure for securing the
system to prevent it from being switched back on
as described in the following.
NOTICE!
Danger to the environment due to incorrect han-
dling of materials which can harm the environ-
ment!
In case of incorrect handling of materials which can
harm the environment, especially improper disposal,
there can be significant damage to the environment.
– Always heed the notes below about the handling of
materials which can harm the environment and
their disposal.
– If materials which can harm the environment acci-
dentally escape into the environment, take suitable
measures immediately. In case of doubt, inform the
responsible local authority about the damage and
ask what suitable measures to take might be.
2.9 Signs
The following symbols and instruction signs are affixed in the work
area. These symbols and instruction signs refer to the immediate
vicinity in which they are affixed.
WARNING!
Danger due to illegible signage!
Over time, stickers and signs can get dirty or in some
other manner become illegible, so that dangers cannot
be recognized and necessary operating instructions
cannot be followed. Thus an injury hazard occurs.
– Keep all safety, warning, and operating instructions
that are affixed to the device in legible condition.
– Replace damaged signs or stickers immediately.
Electrical current
Only qualified electricians must be allowed to work in the area
marked in this way.
Unauthorised parties must not open the marked area.
NOTICE!
Risk of material damage due to incorrect cleaning
and/or care.
Incorrect cleaning and/or care can cause damage to
the system.
– Adhere to all the information on the information
sign and follow the instructions.
WARNING!
Risk of injury from the use of incorrect spare parts.
The use of incorrect or faulty spare parts can put per-
sonnel at risk and cause damage, malfunctions or
complete failure.
– Only use original EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheits-
systeme GmbH & Co. KG spare parts spare parts
approved by EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheitssys-
teme GmbH & Co. KG.
– In case of any doubt, always contact the customer
service department (Ä Chapter 1.5 ‘Customer
service’ on page 7).
Warranty loss
The manufacturer's warranty will be rendered null and
void if non-approved spare parts are used.
3 Technical data
The technical data is specified in the system's inspec-
tion book.
Type plate
The type plate is situated underneath the emergency lever and
contains the following information:
n Address of EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheitssysteme GmbH &
Co. KG
n Relevant European standard
n CE mark
n Year of manufacture
n System designation
n Serial number

Oval spiral
Oval-shaped and thus space-saving construction types are used
when space is limited.
Low drop
The "low drop" design is another space-saving construction type
which can be used when space is limited.
Minimum "keep-open" time The minimum "keep-open" time starts as soon as there is no
longer an active command for opening. If there is no active com-
mand for opening once the minimum "keep-open" time has
elapsed, the door is closed.
The minimum "keep-open" time cannot be set by operating staff.
Contact the customer service department if you wish to change the
minimum "keep-open" time (Ä Chapter 1.5 ‘Customer service’
on page 7).
"Keep-open" time The "keep-open" time starts as soon as there is no longer an active
command for opening. If there is no active command for opening
once the "keep-open" time has elapsed, the door is closed.
To set the "keep-open" time Ä Chapter 7.9 ‘Calling up/changing
parameters’ on page 44.
"Keep-open" time for intermediate The intermediate stop function can be used to open the door to a
stop programmable height (at least 2.5 m) instead of opening it all the
way. The control unit can be set so that different command devices
can be used at the same time for intermediate stop and complete
opening.
How the command devices work:
n Command devices for intermediate stop open the door to the
intermediate stop end position,
n Command devices for intermediate stop can optionally be actu-
ated twice to open the door to the upper end position,
n Command devices for complete opening open the door to the
upper end position.
The "keep-open" for intermediate stop time starts as soon as there
is no longer an active command for opening. If there is no active
command for opening once the "keep-open" time for intermediate
stop has elapsed, the door is closed.
To set the "keep-open" time for intermediate stop Ä Chapter 7.9
‘Calling up/changing parameters’ on page 44.
Display screen
The following information is displayed on the display screen:
n Status messages regarding the current operating status,
n Remaining time until the door closes (remaining "keep-open"
time)
n Prompts to perform actions,
n Fault messages,
n Control parameters,
n General information and maintenance information.
Master switch
The master switch is used to isolate the entire system from the
voltage.
Movements are stopped as quickly as possible and blocked until
the master switch is reactivated.
Selector switch
Selector switches can be supplied in the following versions:
n Selector switches which are fitted to the front of the control unit
(maximum of two selector switches),
n External operating controls which are fitted near to the door
system,
n Key switches which are fitted near to the door system.
[Permanently open]
This selector switch can be used to open the door permanently.
[Intermediate stop]
This selector switch can be used to open the door to a program-
mable height (at least 2.5 m) instead of opening it all the way.
[Counter-locking on/off]
[Lock on/off]
This selector switch can be used to operate two or more doors in a
lock function with forwarding pulse. The forwarding pulse opens
the second lock door automatically as soon as the first lock door is
completely closed.
Slammer or push-button
When the slammer or push-button is actuated, the door opens or
closes.
Push-button combination
The push-button combination has push-buttons for opening, stop-
ping and closing the door.
When the push-button for opening is pressed, the door opens.
When the push-button for closing is pressed, the door closes.
When the push-button for stopping is pressed, the door stops in
every direction. This button is not an emergency stop button. If a
further opening or closing command is issued whilst the door is
stopped, the door opens or closes.
Pull switch
When the pull switch is pulled, the door opens or closes.
Key switch
When the key switch is actuated, the door opens or closes.
Radio transmitter
When a button on the radio transmitter is pressed, the door opens
or closes.
Motion sensor
The motion sensor detects moving objects and transmits an
opening command to the control unit when movement is detected.
The following properties depend on the type of motion sensor:
n Size of the detection field,
n Minimum size of detected objects,
n Direction of movement.
Presence detector
The presence sensor detects moving and stationary objects and
transmits an opening command to the control unit in case of detec-
tion. Personnel and vehicles from all directions of movement are
detected.
The following properties depend on the type of presence sensor:
n Size of the detection field,
n Minimum size of detected objects.
Induction loop
The induction loop can cover large areas. It transmits an opening
command to the control unit when triggered by vehicles. Vehicles
from all directions of movement are detected. Personnel are not
detected.
Whether or not the induction loop is triggered depends on the fol-
lowing factors:
n The shape and size of the induction loop,
n The type of vehicles being detected.
Laser scanner
The laser scanner detects moving and stationary objects and
transmits an opening command to the control unit in case of detec-
tion. Personnel and vehicles from all directions of movement are
detected.
The following properties depend on the type of laser scanner:
n Size of the detection field,
n Command criteria (e.g. ignoring personnel, blocking side
traffic),
n Minimum size of detected objects.
Emergency cord The emergency cord can be used to open the door in an emer-
gency (power failure etc.) manually with little force. The emergency
cord is not designed for regular opening of the door. The emer-
gency actuation works even when the door is locked. The emer-
gency cord does not have a catch position.
The following optional supplementary facilities are also available:
n Sealing with an easily broken wire,
n Lock for blocking the emergency cord,
n Second emergency cord so that the door can be opened from
both sides in case of an emergency.
Locking lever
Improper transportation
NOTICE!
Risk of material damage due to improper transpor-
tation.
Improper transportation can cause the transported
packages to fall or topple over. This can lead to con-
siderable material damage.
– When unloading transported packages when they
are delivered and when transporting them on the
premises, adhere to the symbols and instructions
on the packaging.
– Only use the designated fastening points.
– Do not remove the packaging until shortly before
installation.
Scope of delivery The actual scope of delivery may differ depending on the version of
the door system (see the order form for a detailed listing). The
standard scope of delivery contains the following goods:
5.3 Transportation
Packages which are fastened to pallets can be transported by fork
lift under the following conditions:
n The fork lift must have the appropriate capacity for the weight
of the packages.
n The package must be securely fastened to the pallet.
n The fork lift driver must be authorised to drive industrial trucks
with a driver's seat or driver's station in accordance with the
local regulations.
Transporting Protective equipment: n Safety footwear
5.4 Packaging
Information on packaging The individual packages are packaged in accordance with the
transportation conditions which can be expected. Only environ-
mentally friendly materials were used for the packaging.
The packaging is designed to protect the individual components
from transport damage, corrosion and other damage until they are
installed. You must not therefore destroy the packaging and must
not remove it until shortly before installation.
Handling packaging materials Dispose of packaging material in accordance with the respective
valid legal rules and local regulations.
NOTICE!
Risk of environmental damage as a result of incor-
rect disposal.
Packaging materials are valuable raw materials and in
many cases they can be re-used or prepared and recy-
cled in a practical manner. Incorrect disposal of pack-
aging materials can result in environmental hazards.
– Dispose of packaging materials in an environmen-
tally friendly manner.
– Adhere to the valid local regulations for disposal. If
necessary, have a specialist company carry out
the disposal.
Transport support
Fasten the packages to the points designated in this way.
5.6 Storage
Storing the packages The units of packaging are packaged for transportation and
storage in a plastic film which provides protection from environ-
mental influences.
Store the packages under the following conditions:
n Do not remove or damage the plastic film. Provide the
assembly groups with additional cover as necessary.
n Do not store outdoors.
WARNING!
Risk of fatal injury from incorrect installation and
initial commissioning.
Mistakes made when carrying out installation or initial
commissioning can lead to potentially fatal situations
and considerable material damage.
– Have installation and initial commissioning is per-
formed by employees of EFAFLEX Tor- und
Sicherheitssysteme GmbH & Co. KG or personnel
authorised by EFAFLEX Tor- und Sicherheitssys-
teme GmbH & Co. KG only.
– Even if changing locations at a later date, you must
consult the customer service department
(Ä Chapter 1.5 ‘Customer service’ on page 7).
– Refrain from arbitrary installation and changes of
location.
7 Operation
Improper operation
WARNING!
Danger of injury due to improper operation!
Improper operation can cause serious injury and signif-
icant material damage.
– Carry out all operating steps in accordance with
the information and notices in this manual.
– Pay attention to the following points before starting
work:
– Ensure that all covers and safety devices are
installed and work properly.
– Ensure that that no one is in the danger zone.
– Never override or bridge safety features during
operation.
Manual mode
Personnel: n Operator
2. Press [OPEN].
ð The door opens and finds the upper end position.
Press [STOP].
ð The door stops in the current position.
The display ‘Stop’ or ‘Door stopped’ appears on the dis-
play screen.
Personnel: n Operator
1. Make sure that there is nobody in the danger area.
WARNING!
Risk of crushing from door leaf as it closes.
When using emergency operation on an open door,
the door closes uncontrolledly.
– Only ever actuate the emergency lever after
making sure that there are no persons in the
danger area.
Personnel: n Operator
1. Shift the [emergency lever] downwards as far as it will go and
hold it.
ð The control unit switches to "emergency stop" mode. The
display ‘Emergency stop F211 emergency stop Ext1’ or
‘Emergency stop emergency release NS1’ appears on
the display screen.
2. Open the door leaf manually so that you can pass through
unobstructed.
3. Hold the door leaf open, release the [emergency lever] and
pass through the door.

1. Close the door in manual mode (Ä Chapter 7.6 ‘Operating
the system in manual mode’ on page 41).
8 Cleaning
Soiling shortens the service life of the system. The system there-
fore has to be cleaned regularly and properly.
DANGER!
Risk of fatal injury from electrical energies.
Direct or indirect contact with live components can
cause fatal electrocution.
– Before starting cleaning work, isolate the system
from the voltage supply.
– After switching off the system, wait for at least 5
minutes because capacitors can hold voltage for
this amount of time.
– Do not clean the system with a water jet.
Personnel: n Operator
1. Secure the system area, e.g. using barrier tape and/or
warning signs.
2. Close the door.
3. Switch off the system and secure it to prevent it from being
switched back on.
4. Secure the [emergency lever] to prevent it from being actu-
ated, e.g. using warning signs.
5. Wait at least 5 minutes.
Cleaning agent
NOTICE!
Risk of material damage from unsuitable cleaning
agent.
Unsuitable cleaning agents can damage the system
and cause the system to fail.
Only mild cleaning agents must be used for cleaning. For plastic
surfaces, use mild plastic cleaner. For metal surfaces, use an
appropriate metal cleaning agent.
The following must not be used:
n Alkaline solutions
n Acids
n Glass cleaner
n Scouring milk
n Scrapers, blades, spatulas or similar tools
Clean all metal surfaces with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and
suitable metal cleaning agent (Ä ‘Cleaning agent’
on page 48).
9 Maintenance
The maintenance work must only be performed by the

Maintenance schedule
10 Faults
The following chapter describes the possible causes of faults and
the work required to eradicate them.
If faults occur repeatedly, shorten the maintenance intervals in
accordance with the actual workload.
In case of faults which cannot be eradicated using the following
instructions, contact the customer service department,
