Fact Practice this week: Add 9. Example: 6+9= ; 8+9= (we still need more practice here)
Facts we’ve learned so far – keep practicing!
Add 0; Add 1, Subtract 1; Partners for 10 addition and subtraction, Add 10, Subtract 10

It was fun to go on the fieldtrip to the LBC to see the Super Scientific Circus. Don’t be
surprised if your child is trying to balance long items by finding the center of gravity! We
introduced the concept of details in paragraph writing. In ACT we introduced the concept of
onomatopoeia- words that make a sound associated with the word like drip or sizzle. We
continued to work on fiction writing this week. In math we took the Unit 2 assessment and we
took an assessment in science as well. We will continue for another week with the Add 9 fact. I
hope you enjoyed your rock families and saw the poem your child wrote on the back.

Thank you to those of you who can help on December 12 from 8:30-10 with the Holiday
Craft Fair.

Practice at home or in the car!

-Skip count forwards and backwards! By 2, 5, 10 (and then off 10 such as 13,23,33,43…)
-Skip count around 100 (79, 89, 99, 109, 119) Also count in place value: “7 tens and 8 ones, 8
tens and 8 ones, 9 tens and 8 ones, 10 tens and 8 ones..”
-Practice the facts with your child each week. (See above)
-Continue to use the questions presented in Talking to your kids about books (also available on
the class website)
-Check out MadLibs. They are a super fun way to encourage reading and solidify parts of
speech.

Questions to ask your child about what they learned in school:

-What was your favorite onomatopoeia word?
- What surprised you the most at the field trip?
-How do you focus your attention? What does good listening look like?
-What was the hardest part of the science assessment? What was the easiest part?
