Q2 Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets
Students will improve their writing skills with current knowledge and new vocabulary.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria

Students will be able to think, write, and draw in their personalized journals.

CSTP Rationale (Describe the ways your lesson aligns with California Standards for the Teaching
Profession.)

CSTP 1 Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning: I am using student’s previous
knowledge of writing skills in my lesson. I will adjust the lesson for some small groups, by
providing more assistance in the process.

CSTP 2 Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning: I will
communicate my expectations for students' development and provide individual help to
optimize learning.

CSTP 3 Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning: I will use
multiple instructional strategies to accommodate to each students’ learning.

CSTP 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students: I will
set appropriate goals to match student learning and will also challenge them to exceed their
usual sentence count and use of new vocabulary.

CSTP 5 Assessing Students for Learning: I will track student learning with verbal check-ins
and by reading their complete assignment, then offering feedback.

CSTP 6 Developing as a Professional Educator: I am collaborating with my mentor teacher

to teach a first-grade lesson plan in class.
Lesson Plan Content
Students will be given instructions to have their journals and pencil boxes with them. I will
instruct them to open to a new page and then we will discuss writing topics. Students will
choose what they want to write about and must use one new word from their December
themed vocabulary list. They will show correct use of capitalization, punctuation, and spacing
within their writing. Once writing is finished, students can draw an image that connects to their
writing.

Instructional Procedures

 Focusing Event
I will get my small group of student's attention with a verbal cue for example, “1, 2, 3,
eyes on me.”

 Instructional Strategies
I will use direct instruction to introduce new vocabulary and direct writing. I will use
interactive instruction when I ask students to share their writing.

 Student Participation
I will engage students by giving them writing topic suggestions, then ask what they
chose to write about.

 Formative Check
I will ensure that students are involved with individual check-ins.

 Closure
I will end the lesson by asking students to share with their small group.

 Assessment
I will assess student achievement of the lesson goal by their correct use of new
vocabulary and full, complete sentences.
