AMBER BURN

SURVIVAL GUIDE
THE 10 PRINCIPLES
Amber Burn is governed by 10 principles, which are guidelines on how we behave
towards each other as participants. These are not rules, but rather a source of inspiration
and sage advice.

RADICAL INCLUSION
Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No
prerequisites exist for participation in our community.

GIFTING
Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional.
Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.

DECOMMODIFICATION
In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social envi-
ronments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or adver-
tising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the
substitution of consumption for participatory experience.

RADICAL SELF-RELIANCE
Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her
inner resources.

RADICAL SELF-EXPRESSION
Radical self-expression arises from the unique gifts of the individual. No one other
than the individual or a collaborating group can determine its content. It is offered as
a gift to others. In this spirit, the giver should respect the rights and liberties of the
recipient.

COMMUNAL EFFORT
Our community values creative cooperation and collaboration. We strive to produce,
promote and protect social networks, public spaces, works of art, and methods of
communication that support such interaction.

CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY
We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume
responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities
to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accor-
dance with local, state and federal laws.
LEAVING NO TRACE
Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical
trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor,
whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.

PARTICIPATION
Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that trans-
formative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the
medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone
is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions
that open the heart.

IMMEDIACY
Immediate experience is, in many ways, the most important touchstone of value in our
culture. We seek to overcome barriers that stand between us and a recognition of our
inner selves, the reality of those around us, participation in society, and contact with a
natural world exceeding human powers. No idea can substitute for this experience.

AMBER BURN IS NOT A FESTIVAL

IT’S AN OFFICIAL BURNING MAN EVENT, A CO-CREATIVE
GATHERING GOVERNED BY THE 10 PRINCIPLES OF BURNING MAN.

What happens here is up to YOU. There’s no commercial activity or sponsorship — we don’t book
acts or provide vending. Everyone is a participant. Yes, sometimes it can be scary to reveal yourself,
be vulnerable and open; But this is exactly why getting involved is so much fun! We promise you, this
is the safest place to show your talents, passions, your genuine nature. No judgements. Just play and
create. You are entering a “decommodified” space that values who you are, not what you have. Drop
your expectations and the fake facade and let the imagination fly. Oh, and clean up after yourself!

So, now that we stated our case and you are inspired to put yourself out there,

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU GET STARTED

GET INVOLVED
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
● Volunteer! We may be still accepting volunteers for the following departments:

⁕ Gates ⁕ Sanctuary (Safezone) ⁕ Placement

⁕ Greeters ⁕ Rangers ⁕ Bar
⁕ Central Camp ⁕ Leave No Trace ⁕ Kitchen
⁕ Parking ⁕ FAST (Fire Safety) ⁕ Info Point
⁕ Kids Village ⁕ Lights & Sounds ⁕ Build
⁕ Medics ⁕ Infrastructure ⁕ Fluffers (WD40)

Hit us up at volunteers@amberburn.lt if you have particular skills that you think might be useful. We
will also contact you if a department you checked when registering is in need of people.
Volunteering might be the most obvious way to get involved, but is by far not the only option you
have. Here is some other ways to bring your individuality to life and make the gathering as vibrant as
possible:

⁕ Make your own art and show it. Express yourself! We want to see YOU!
⁕ Create gifts for other participants. Anything that comes from the heart!
⁕ Decorate the spaces - colors, lights, you name it!
⁕ Make a costume for yourself - go wild, go bizarre, be unique. Dressing up is always super fun!

ANSWERS TO YOUR BURNING QUESTIONS

AMBER BURN IS A SELF-RELIANCE EVENT. BRING EVERYTHING
YOU NEED, AND ALSO STUFF TO SHARE.

LOCATION: : The location of the gathering will be kept secret to protect the privacy and remote-
ness of the event. All we can say is that it’s within 1h drive from Vilnius.

HYGIENE & TOILETS: Portable toilets will be provided. Keep them clean and be respectful — you
are a guest in a beautiful place. And make sure to disinfect your hands after using the WC! There will
be no showers, but there is quite a big pond. Using any kind of detergent is not allowed in natural
water sources.

FOOD & WATER: The event offers no vending, so you have to bring and cook your own food. This is
one of the reasons we encourage you to join a Theme Camp — it’s easier that way. Open flame is
not allowed in campsites, except for portable gas stoves. Some camps might offer food or bever-
ages, so please BYOC (bring your own cup)! Seriously, it’s a good idea to carry a nice cup with you —
otherwise you might not be served anywhere. (and please: NO FUCKING DISPOSABLE PLASTIC!)

POWER: Unfortunately, this year we will not be providing electrical distribution unless you have very
specific needs. Contact us directly (below) if required.

CAMPING, CAMPSITES, THEME CAMPS: There are few places where you can camp at Amber
Burn. If you’re a member of a registered Theme Camp, you can camp in the Theme Camps area.
Theme camps have their designated placement. If not, you can camp in the Free Camping Area,
where you can also gather your friends and set up a small improvised camp. If you’re coming with
kids, you are welcome to stay in the Kids Village, which is in a quieter area. There is a Vans & Camp-
ers parking area, where you will be placed according to your registration.
COMMERCE
AMBER BURN IS CREATED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF GIFTING — ANY USE OF MONEY DURING THE
EVENT IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. MARKETING, PRODUCT PROMOTION, AND COMMERCIAL
ACTIVITY OF ANY KIND IS NOT WELCOME HERE EITHER. THERE IS NOTHING TO BUY, AND YOU
CANNOT SELL YOUR STUFF EITHER.

MOBILE DEVICES: Leave the phone behind for a while - we can’t emphasize this enough! Stay offline
for a change. Open yourself to the here and now and you’ll experience wonders.

PHOTOS & VIDEO: Less photos – more joy in the moment. If you feel like taking a picture or video with
other participants in it, always ask everyone if they are OK with it before doing so. It’s NOT OK to take a
picture of someone without their permission. If you still want to document the event, apply to get an
EYE pass.

No photos or videos can be used publicly without the permission of Amber Burn. The digital rights to all
pictures and video taken during the event belong to the “Lithuania Burners” community. Commercial
use is strictly prohibited.

SAFETY
PERSONAL SAFETY: You are responsible for your own safety. Illuminate yourself, your camp, and your
artwork at night. Keep sharp parts (like those of tent stakes or installations) covered. Have a fire extin-
guisher at your camp. And make sure you have anti-mosquito spray, sun-screen, etc.

The event will be assisted by a team of hired security professionals and Rangers who will be going
around to make sure that everyone is enjoying their experience safely. They can also act as a non-con-
flict resolution personnel and direct you to the nearest First Aid station. Or they might just help you if
they notice you are in trouble or feeling overwhelmed. You can always be part of it by volunteering
either in the medical or the rangers team.

COVID-19: Our dear “friend” from the last couple of years - COVID-19 - is not invited to the event. Even
the principle of Radical Inclusion does not apply here and we’d like to keep it this way. So if you feel
unwell or have just been sick - stay at home. In any other case - bring your vaccination proof or fresh
PCR test result (not more than 72 hours before the gathering). As the information and regulations are
changing constantly, best is to follow our latest updates on this topic on social media and emails.
Remember - it’s your responsibility to be adequately informed. If you fail to comply with the require-
ments, you’ll be unfortunately denied entry to the event.

FIRE: We burn things. We do it following Fire Art Safety Guidelines, but make sure to be conscious and
stay in the boundaries of the fire perimeter. Listen carefully to what the shouting person is telling you.
Keep an eye on your friend, your dog, and any fluffy flammable stuff. Remember that there is no open
flame allowed in the campsites, except for portable gas stoves.

KIDS: We welcome everyone, and children are an important part of our culture. We will have a
separate, quieter family camping area near the forest. It will be allowed to park a car or camper not
too far from the tents. There will also be bio toilets close by. Let's create a friendly and safe camp for
our kids and ourselves. Bring activities and create experiences suitable for the kids. Of course,
Amber Burn is an adult-oriented event, so parents are responsible for their children’s wellbeing at
all times. If a child goes missing or you encounter a lost child, alert Amber Burn Ranger. Always be
respectful and aware of the presence of children.

ANIMALS: Dogs are allowed to enter the event on the condition that dog owners must ensure
safety and clean up after their pets. Pets have to be on a leash in common areas. Violating these
conditions might end up in removal of both the dog and the owner from the event. The same rules
apply to other animals, including unicorns.
EMERGENCY & HELP: If there is an emergency, or you simply have questions or feel uncomfortable
with something, find and talk to an Amber Burn ranger (people with the brightest “Ranger” vests).
Info Point is the place where you can get all the information you need.
If you feel overwhelmed, you can find peace in the safe zone, where trained personnel will take care
of you. Safe zone will be open 24/7.

FIRST AID (MEDIC) STATION: The medical station will be marked on the map. Come here if you
have any serious health issues or emergencies.

LOST & FOUND: If you lost something or found some items that don’t belong to you, give them to
the Rangers or just bring them to the Info Point.

PERSONAL BOUNDARIES & CONSENT: We believe that consent plays a vital role in our connectivi-
ty and community. Whether it is taking someone’s picture, offering a gift, a hug, a potential sexual
encounter or anything that interacts with other people's experiences, you are responsible for
getting verbal consent in advance. Look out for each other! Do not hesitate to contact a ranger if
someone's freedom compromises safety!

LEAVE NO TRACE: There are no trash bins in Amber Burn. You must take away everything you bring
in. Keep recycling trash bags at your camping place, bring and share trash containers with your
neighbors — it’s a very kind gift!

Plan ahead. Leave all of the packaging of your food, etc, before you enter the event, so you don’t
have to pack it back out. Do not bring hard-to-pick-up MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) like glitter or
feathers — those are strictly prohibited items, and you will be denied entry to the event if the Gate
Crew finds any such prohibited items. And be sure to pick up after yourself when you leave: scout
the surroundings for any micro-trash on the ground as well, regardless of whether it’s yours or not.
Your camping area will have to be inspected before you leave, to ensure that you Leave No Trace.
