Hamengkubuwono IX

He was born in Yogyakartaon 12 April

1912. His parents called Him Gusti
Raden Mas Dorodjatun.When he was
4 years old,he lived with the Mulder
family.
 BACK GROUND FAMILY
AND STUDY
The family came from the Netherlands.He studied
in Yogyakarta from primary school until junior
high school in 1925.Then he moved to Bandung
for senior high school and studied at a University
in the Netherlands. He wen tback to Indonesia in
October 1939.
 History
Unfortunately,his father (Sri Sultan
Hamengkubuwono VII ) passed away in the
same month.Then 1 year later, Dorodjatun
was crowned as SriSultan Hamengkubuwono
IX. During his leadership, he contributed alot
to Indonesian independence
CONTRIBUTIONS
First,during Japanese
colonialism,Sri Sultan did a
great project to save his
people from forced labour
called‘ romusha ’ .The strategy
successfully protected his
people by focusing them on
the canal development.
CONTRIBUTIONS Then in 1946, Sri Sultan
also suggested to Mr
Soekarno to move the
capital city to Yogyakarta
because the situation in
Jakarta was chaotic at
that time.
 AT NEW CAPITAL
Mr President welcomed the idea and the
capital city of Indonesia was officially moved in
1946.
Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX had some
achievements. He served as the minister of
state from 1946 to 1949, minister of defence
from 1949 to 1950, and lastly, he was the
second vice president after Mr Moh Hatta from
1973 – 1978.
 THE HERO
He die don 2 October 1988 when he visited the
United States of America. All people lost their
leader and were very sad. Many people were
grieving at that time. Because of his
contribution to Indonesia, Sri Sultan
Hamengkubuwone IX was awarded by our
national hero by the President in 1990.
