ASSIGNMENT 12

IMPROVING HEALTH

A. Answer these questions shortly!

1. How can technology benefit doctors and hospitals?

Answer :

Technology can be useful for doctors and hospitals, because with the existence of
technology in the health sector, it is believed that it can provide various benefits for
health service providers.

The benefits of technology for doctors and hospitals, namely:

a. Facilitate Doctors and Other Medical Personnel in Helping Patients
With the development of technology in the health sector, it is easier for doctors
and other medical personnel to reach patients.

Now with only an internet connection and a cell phone, doctors and other
medical personnel can help patients without having to meet face to face. Doctors
can also have more flexible times and places to help patients.
b. Diagnose a disease
With the existence of technology, diagnosing a disease is no longer difficult,
because using technology will be faster, easier, and more accurate to help
doctors know the name and type of a disease.

c. Facilitate Hospitals in Processing Data

The function of technology in hospitals can also make it easier for us to process
the data we have. With the help of technology in the form of the presence of a
hospital information system, hospital IT division, we can use this data for
various needs. Examples include recording medical records, preparing RL
reports for the Ministry of Health, and evaluating services provided to patients.

d. Can Check the Data Needed in Real Time

Another function of information technology in hospitals that is rarely known is
its ability to check data online. The function of information technology is very
important, because it involves making decisions that need to be taken by health
workers. In many cases, patients are often faced with the condition that timing
is everything. Therefore, the function of information technology in checking
real time data can cut the time that was previously wasted due to manual data
searches.

2. What kind of medical technology do you know about?

Answer :

Types of technology that I know, namely:

a. CRISPR
This technology works by utilizing the natural mechanism of the immune
system of bacterial / viral cells that attack the body, then the DNA chain can be
cut. Cutting the DNA chain is transformed into a method of curing disease. By
genetic engineering, several health threats such as cancer and HIV have the
potential to be treated in the future.
b. Telehealth
In this modern era, many of the world's people prefer digital-based services.
Telehealth is described as an advanced technology that evolves in a way that
medical services are delivered through digital devices rather than meeting face-
to-face with a doctor.

c. Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality has been around for some time and lately Virtual Reality
technology is also being used in the medical world. In the academic field, for
example, this technology has been used as a medium for learning anatomy,
practicing medical skills procedures, and others.

d. Precision Medicine
Precision Medicine is a technology that develops by providing individual
medical treatment services to each patient based on the genetics of each
individual. This technology makes treatment more effective because it only
specifically provides therapy to target cells, for example, what is often used is
in the treatment of cancer.

e. Health wearables
The technology referred to in this case is health technology that can be used or
carried in daily activities. For example, currently there are many watches that
can detect heart rate, smartphone applications that can count the number of daily
steps, measure sleep patterns, and so on.

f. Artificial Organs
The emergence of 3D – printing technology did not escape the attention of the
medical community until it was applied for therapeutic purposes. At the
beginning of its experiments, this technology was used to make skin to replace
lost skin on fire victims. Until now, researchers have succeeded in developing
this technology to create several artificial organs such as blood vessels, ovaries,
and even the pancreas.

g. Wireless Brain Sensors

This technology helps researchers and doctors examine and measure the
temperature or pressure in the brain.

h. Robotic Surgery
Currently operations using robot technology are often used in the world,
especially in developed countries for operations with minimal invasion. This
technology increases precision, control and flexibility in operation.

B. Write an article!
You are a scientist developing new health technology. Write an article about your new
technology (200 – 250 words). You might talk about:
1. What the new systems or devices are (Description of your technology)
2. How the systems or devices work (Procedures to operate your technology)
3. How they can help doctors and improve healthcare (Benefits of your technology for
doctors and hospitals)

Remote Monitoring System Technology

As a healthcare scientist, I am excited to announce the development of our latest innovation

“Remote Monitoring Systems” for patients with chronic conditions.

Our new system consists of a small wearable device that patients can wear on their wrist or clip
onto their clothing. The device continuously monitors vital signs such as heart rate, blood
pressure, and oxygen levels, and transmits data wirelessly to a central hub. This hub can be
accessed by the patient's health care provider, who can use the data to monitor the patient's
condition and make treatment decisions in real-time.

One of the main benefits of this system is its ability to detect potential problems early on, so
that healthcare providers can intervene before a crisis occurs. For example, if the device detects
a sudden drop in blood pressure, the healthcare provider can alert the patient to take action,
such as drinking more fluids or taking medication.

As well as helping healthcare providers manage chronic conditions more effectively, our
remote monitoring systems can also improve patient experience. For example, patients with
chronic conditions often have to visit their healthcare provider frequently, which can be time-
consuming and inconvenient. With our system, patients can receive ongoing care from the
comfort of their own home, reducing the need for in-person visits.

Overall, our new remote monitoring system has the potential to revolutionize the way
healthcare providers manage chronic conditions and improve patients' lives. We believe that
this technology will become an invaluable tool for doctors and hospitals, helping them provide
more effective and efficient care to their patients.
