Abstract: The law of conservation of energy states that energy can be neither created nor be destroyed but it
can be converted from one form to another form of energy. Environmental pollution is a major problem
facing by all countries around the world. Rapid growth on the industrial and urban side has concluded in vast
quantities of potentially harmful waste being related to the environment. The sound is form of mechanical
energy. It can be converted into electrical energy through many approaches including heating by using
diaphragm and through using piezoelectric material. Some noises cannot be restricted such noises at market,
traffic, railway stations, industries etc. Those unwanted noise can be used for generation of electricity. By
this approach we can reduce energy consumption from non- renewable sources. When sound vibration is on
diaphragm then strain and stressed so that converted in electrical energy and piezoelectric is made of
crystalline structure material which direct convert mechanical to electrical energy. The major area to focus is
how we can enhance the performance of electricity formed by conversion of sound energy.

I. INTRODUCTION
Environmental pollution is a major problem facing all countries around the world. Rapid growth on the industrial and
urban side has concluded in vast quantities of potentially harmful waste products being related to the environment. The
massive increase in the number of inhabitants and vehicles has led to major concern about "Noise Pollution" where it
has become a major problem facing societies. Noise pollution is impacting on the communities’ developments as it has
a direct and indirect effect on human activities like education, production, economic processes and social aspects.
Noise effects have different impacts on human’s mental and physical health and disturbance of daily activities and that
effects can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss, ranging from slight impairment to nearly total deafness. Traffic
noise is considered as the major source of noise pollution in cities. All these means of transportation such as airplanes,
buses, trains, heavy trucks and motor-cycles increase the noise pollution
Noise is a kind of energy but with sound pressure levels higher than the levels that are audible by human ear. According
to the third law of thermodynamics, mechanical energy can be converted to electrical energy, thus sound as a form of
mechanical energy can be converted to electric energy. There are three approached to convert sonic energy to electric
energy; by heating, by using the diaphragm and through using piezoelectric materials. This research will focus on
utilizing noise through using piezoelectric materials as an approach of conversion to produce green sustainable electric
energy that can be used to decrease the energy consumption produced from non-renewable sources. Application of
sound energy as the source of electricity can be much beneficial for the human existence as compared to other sources.
This is because the sound is present in the environment as a noise which forms an essential part of the environmental
pollution. The concentration of noise to use it for power generation can lead to discovery of another hidden source of
energy which can act as a boon to non-renewable sources such as coal, crude oil etc. When these substances vibrate, or
rapidly move back and forth, they produce sound. Sound can be sensed through various types of sound sensors.
Piezoelectric material is one of the most effective sound sensors. The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting
from pressure. Piezoelectricity is the charge that accumulates in certain solid materials (notably crystals and certain
ceramics) in response to applied mechanical stress. The piezoelectric effect is understood as the linear
electromechanical interaction between the mechanical and the electrical state in some crystalline materials with no
inversion symmetry.

II. RELATED WORK

Literature survey is a crucial stage in project life cycle; therefore, its importance cannot be underestimated. The
information collected through websites is properly analyzed to clearly understand the requirements. The purpose of this
literature survey is to derive a new solution by understanding the failing and inadequacies of the present system. The
survey is carried out in the initial stages of the work and the need of this application is determined. This chapter
contains the study of different previous technologies and draw backs of the previous technologies. Comparison between
the previous technology and the technology adopted in the work, comparison between previous designs and proposed
design is also included in this chapter.

Existing Systems
M.Viknesh, S.Vinoth, M.Maheswaran and P. Sivasakthy “Generation Of Electrical Energy From Sound Energy” [1]
Sound is known that the technological aspects are increasing at a faster pace. But the utilization of technologies are
very low in various sectors. It is known that the sound pollution is increasing in urban cities due to traffic. So here we
propose a system where the sound signal is gathered using, sound sensors and the obtained waves are used for
production of electricalenergy.
Yasser A. Farghaly, Fahd Abdel Aziz Hemeida and Sahar Salah “Noise utilization as an approach for reducing energy
consumption in street lighting”. [2] Noise is considered as one of the challenging problems in big cities. However, this
noise could be utilized in producing energy especially in dense urban areas. Sound as a form of mechanical energy, it
can be converted to electric energy through many approaches including heating, by using the diaphragm and through
using piezoelectric materials. This research aims at utilizing noise through using piezoelectric materials as an approach
of conversion to produce green sustainable electric energy that can be used to decrease the energy consumption from
non-renewable sources and utilizing this energy in street lighting.
MehulGarg ,Devyani Gera AmanBansal and Arpan Kumar “Generation of Electrical Energy from Sound Energy” [3]
Sound waves fall on a diaphragm, which is connected to an induction coil placed in front of a permanent magnet. As
the sound waves reach the diaphragm, it starts to vibrate. When the diaphragm vibrates, the coil moves along with it.
The movement of coil creates a varying magnetic and electric field around it.
Shalabh Rakesh Bhatnagar (SRB) “Converting Sound Energy To Electric Energy” [4] A less popular but useful source
of clean noise (sound energy). Waste form of sound energy can be used for some creative purpose. Random unwanted
noise can be treated as a source of electrical energy which can be a transducer. The output of a transducer is enhanced.
G. R. Ahmed Jamal*, Hamidul Hassan, Amitav Das, JannatulFerdous, SharminA. Lisa “Generation of Usable Electric
Power from Available Random Sound Energy” [5] A relatively less explored source of green energy is proposed.
Random sound energy around us can be treated as a source of electric power after their efficient conversion using
suitable transducer. An effective way of producing usable electric power from available random sound energy is
presented here. Piezoelectric transducers are used for conversion of sounds into electric energy.
Alankrit Gupta, VivekGoel, VivekYadav “Conversion of Sound to Electric Energy” [6] The work done on the
conversion techniques and methodologies of converting sound energy to its electrical counterpart. It focuses on the
feasibility and the ground zero application of the same. The prediction of the future development of these kind of
sources of energy is emphasized other than commonly known ones such as solar energy, biogas, wind energy and so
on. So one can imagine if we were able to convert the sound energy to electricity then we can charge our mobile phone
just by talking to our friends on mobile itself.

III. METHODOLOGY
Concentration of noise to use it for power generation can lead to discovery of another hidden source of energy which
can act as a boon to non- renewable sources. When sound wave travel through a medium in that medium is periodically
displaced and thus oscillates with sound wave. The sound wave displace back and forth because of the potential energy
compression and the kinetic energy of the oscillation. Sound energy could be easily converted into heat energy and then
converted into electricity but it is not highly efficient as the loss in conversion will be more whereas the other method is
converting sound energy to electricity by piezoelectric material, piezoelectric materials are the crystal which converts

mechanical strain to electric energy by such method. So we could see that sound is a form of mechanical energy and
according to third law of thermodynamics mechanical energy could be converted into electric energy. Piezoelectric
material used for the conversion of noise pollution to green energy and into electric energy. Piezoelectric crystals are
the crystals which converts mechanical strain to electric energy. The strain applied to piezoelectric material by sound
energy could be converted into electricity.

Figure 1: Block diagram of the system

When a piezoelectric crystal is placed in an electric field, or when charges are applied by external means to its faces,
the crystal exhibits strain, i.e. the dimensions of the crystal Changes. When the direction of the applied electric field is
reversed, the direction of the resulting strain is reversed. This is called the inverse piezoelectric effect. So it could be
seen that when the sound energy is applied to the piezoelectric material it create strain in the crystal then it reverse it
and the strain is converted into electric energy. This direct piezoelectric effect property of piezoelectric material could
be used for making the device to convert sound energy to electric energy.

IV. CONCLUSION
• Sound can be converted into electricity by using piezoelectric effect.
• Piezoelectric crystal can be used convert sound to electricity.
• DC-DC power converter is used boost the signal.
• Storing and forwarding of power can done by using storage batteries.
