Respiratory System

The respiratory system helps you breathe in [inhale] and breathe out [exhale] air.
You inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.
The main organs of the respiratory system are:
-the nose
- the windpipe or trachea
- the lungs

The nose
- Has got: Tiny hair called cilia filters the dust and other particles in the air.
- Function: It allows air to enter your body
The windpipe or trachea
- Function: carry air in and out of your lungs
The lungs
- Function: Take in oxygen and take out carbon dioxide
The diaphragm
- Function: a big muscle that helps us breathe

How do we breathe?
First, we inhale oxygen through our nose and mouth.
Next, the oxygen goes down the windpipe and into the lungs.
Then, oxygen from the air passes into the circulatory system and the blood carries it to all parts
of the body.
Finally, we breathe out carbon dioxide through our nose and mouth.

Why does our heart beat faster when we exercise?

It is because when we are moving, we need more energy. To get more energy we need more
oxygen so the heart needs to beat more.
Inhalation
- We breathe in air.
- Our lungs get bigger.
- We inhale oxygen.
- The air passes to our lungs then it goes to our blood.
Exhalation
- We breathe out air.
- Our lungs get bigger.
- We exhale carbon dioxide because our body doesn’t need it.
