Using productivity applications (multimedia presentations,


Microsoft PowerPoint, OpenOffice.org Impress)

1. General Introduction to Multimedia Applications:


Definition:
Multimedia applications integrate various forms of media such as text, graphics, audio, video, and
animations into a cohesive presentation.

Purpose:
 Used for conveying information in an engaging and dynamic way.
 Ideal for presentations, educational materials, and marketing.

2. Creating, Saving, and Opening Presentations:


Creating a New Presentation:
 Open the application and click on "New Presentation" or use a shortcut.
 Choose a blank presentation or a template.

Saving and Opening:


 Save: Click on "Save" or "Save As," select a location, and provide a filename.
 Open: Click on "Open," navigate to the file location, and select the desired presentation
file.

3. Viewing and Working with Slides:


Slide View Options:
 Normal view for editing, Slide Sorter for overview, and Slide Show for presentation.

Navigating Slides:
 Use the slide sorter, slide thumbnails, or slide navigator to move between slides.

4. Building Presentations:
Adding Slides:
 Click on "New Slide" or use a shortcut to add a new slide.
 Choose a layout for the new slide.
Moving/Sorting Slides:
 Drag and drop slides in the slide sorter to change their order.

Duplicating Slides:
 Right-click on a slide and select "Duplicate" to create a copy.

5. Making Slides Look Good:


Applying Templates:
 Choose a predefined template for a consistent and professional look.
 Customize fonts, colors, and layouts within the template.

Changing Color Scheme:


 Modify the color scheme to match the theme or corporate colors.

Slide Layout:
 Adjust the layout of a slide to accommodate different content types (text, images, charts).

Background:
 Modify the background of slides to enhance visual appeal.
 Add images, patterns, or solid colors to the background.

6. Adding Pictures and Artistic Effects:


Inserting Pictures:
 Click on "Insert" and select "Pictures" to add images to slides.
 Adjust the size and position of pictures as needed.

Compressing Pictures:
 Use the "Compress Pictures" option to reduce the file size of images without significant
quality loss.

Applying Borders to Pictures and Objects:


 Select the picture or object.
 Go to the "Format" tab and choose "Picture Border" to add borders.

Adding 3D Effects:
 Use the "3D Format" options to add depth and perspective to shapes and objects.

7. Adding Sound, Movies, and Links:


Adding Sound:
 Click on "Insert" and select "Audio" to add sound.
 Adjust playback options and set volume.

Adding Movies:
 Use "Insert" > "Video" to embed videos into slides.
 Adjust playback settings and size.

Adding Links:
 Highlight text or object, right-click, and choose "Hyperlink" to link to websites, other
slides, or documents.

8. Adding Animations and Special Effects:


Applying Slide Transition:
 Choose a transition effect between slides from the "Transition" tab.

Customizing Animations:
 Select an object, go to the "Animations" tab, and choose an animation effect.
 Customize animation settings like duration and delay.

Adding Action Buttons:


 Insert action buttons to trigger specific actions (go to the next slide, play sound, etc.).

Turning Off Animations:


 Remove or adjust animations by selecting the object and choosing "None" or "Remove
Animation."

9. Setting Up and Playing Presentations:


Printing Presentations:
 Use the "File" menu and select "Print" to print handouts, notes, or slides.

Setting Time for Slides:


 Customize slide timings for automatic advancement during a presentation.

10. Using Multimedia to Create Presentations:


School Profile Presentation:
 Include information about the school's history, mission, achievements, and facilities.
Lesson Presentation:
 Structure slides with lesson objectives, content, and interactive elements.

Action Plans Presentation:


 Outline goals, steps, and timelines with visual aids and charts.

Assignment Presentation:
 Present assignment details, instructions, and expectations using multimedia elements.
