Comment:
1. SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) RT PCR test is a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction for the qualitative
detection of SARS-CoV-2.
2. Positive results are indicative of the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. However, clinical correlation along with
patient history is necessary to determine patient infection status. Positive results also do not rule out bacterial
infection or co-infection with other viruses.
3. Negative results must be combined with clinical observations and patient history. Negative results do not
exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection and should not be used as the sole basis for patient management.
4. A single negative test result particularly upper respiratory specimen does not rule out infection.
5. Repeat sampling and testing of lower respiratory specimen is strongly recommended for severe disease.
6. The results relates only to specimen tested and should be correlated with clinical findings.
