controls, transportation, and towing information.

Illustrations guide the operator through correct procedures of checking, starting, operating, and

stopping the machine. Operating techniques that are outlined in this publication are basic. Skill and

techniques develop as the operator gains knowledge of the machine and the capabilities of the
machine.

023 6
Note: Detection of an operator in the seat is determined by a sensor in the seat. In the case of a

Cat
failed or malfunctioned operator seat sensor, depressing the left brake more than 10% can be used

erp
as an override to create operator presence. This override should only be used for temporarily
moving the machine and not during normal operation. Once you override the machine, move the
machine to a secure location and consult your Cat dealer.illa

c.
The operator is considered present if any of the following conditions are true:

The operator is seated in the seat

The transmission is in gear

The drill/travel mode has been activated

There is detectable ground speed

The operator is considered not present if all the following are true:

The operator is not in the seat

The transmission is in NEUTRAL

The drill/travel mode has not been activated

The ground speed is zero

Operator Present Interlock - Machines equipped with a steering wheel require an operator to be
present for the parking brake to be released. A sensor in the seat will detect the presence of the
operator.

11/5/23, 7:51 PM SIS 2.0

Note: Kneeling or otherwise placing weight on the seat may result in the operator being considered
present. Ensure the parking brake switch remains in the ENGAGED position to prevent
unintentional release of the parking brake.

Alternate Operator Presence Detection - In the event of a failed seat sensor, operator presence
can be detected by depressing the left brake more than 10%. This override should only be used for
temporarily moving the machine and not during normal operation. If the seat sensor has failed,
consult your Cat dealer.

Steering System Interlock (Joystick Steering Configuration) - Machines equipped with joystick
steering require the steering system be active before the parking brake will release. Part of the
steering system activation includes an operator presence detection. Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Operator Controls - Steering and Transmission Controls (Joystick)" for
additional information.

Note: The parking brake may automatically apply in certain conditions, regardless of the switch
position.

The parking brake will apply for these following conditions:

If the engine is shut off

If the operator is not present in the seat, the machine ground speed is zero, the transmission
controls are in the NEUTRAL position, and the left brake is released.
