4 OBJECTIVES

Q1. Maharaj Sahab! Is it so that through “kaama” we archive “artha” through “artha” we achieve
“Dharma” and through “Dharma” we achieve “moksha”?

ANS. There are four objective of life which we call “four purusarth”. They are “Dharma”, ”Artha”,
”Kaama”, ”Moksha”. “Dharma” and “Moksha ” are one and the same thing and “artha”, and “kaama”
are also equivalent . “artha”, and “kaama” lead us to materialism and “Dharma ” and “Moksha ” lead us
to spiritualism . “artha” implies all the physical things of the world. “artha” not only means property or
money . A motive is also “artha”. If there is motive behind doing some work, then that work is also
“artha”. With this body only one can achieve “kaama” and with this body only one can achieve
“Dharma”. The body is also a friend of itself and it is also foe of itself. Some achieve “artha” with this
body and some achieve “moksha” with this body. This body is very unique thing. It is like a two edges
sword.

Q2. But Maharaj Sahab it seems that most of the people tend to go towards ‘artha’ not many people
seem to go towards “dharma”

ANS. This is seen only at apparent level that people tend to go towards “artha” more. People also go
towards “dharma” and whose problems have got solved by going towards “artha”. You think that “If I
get 10 core rupees then all my problems will get solved” but no problems get solved. Even f you manage
to get 10 cores rupees then also you will be troubled by problems. ”Where should I hide my 10 cores ”
“how should I protect my 10 cores ” “how can I increase my 10 cores” ”what should I do with my 10
cores ”. The problems will come in a new form. Don’t the people who own 10 cores get haunted by
problems?

Q3. Then Maharaj Sahab, how will the problems get solved?

ANS. Actually the thing which you think of as problem is not really the problem.

Q4. So then is considering ‘the problem’ as ‘not the problem’ a way to solve the problems?

ANS. First you have to understand what the problem is. To go towards “artha” is the problem. To have a
motive is the problem. If I will have a motive with you then only you will become a problem for me and if
you will have a motive with me then only I will become a problem for you.. For this reason we do sadhna
. In sadhna what motive do we have for doing it? What motive is there in doing traversal through the
body?

COMMENT- I think to be there in the present moment is the motive.

EXPLANATION- yes we can say that we become present in the present moment by doing sadhna but by
doing sadhna , by doing transversal through the body we automatically become present in the present
moment. If we do sadhana with a motive of being present in the present moment then that sadhana will
become “artha”. Sadhna should be done only for doing sadhana . although it is not wrong if we have a
motive of being present in the present moment for doing sadhana. There is a difference between each

1
and every motive. If someone captures a rabbit in a cage and puts the cage in a forest and then if one
person goes and feeds that rabbit a carrot and after that another person goes and frees that rabbit then
there is difference between the motives of each of the two persons.

Q5. Maharaj Sahab earlier I didn’t use to think like this but it seems to me that money is also important.
Now I have understood the value of it. It seems that those who have money get the respect.

ANS. There is no relation between money and respect. Money is also a burden and respect is also a
burden. If everybody had been giving so much respect to me then would I have been able to get the
time to talk to you. Money and respect both are burden and there is no connection between money and
respect. The respect which you get by money is not even worth a nickel.

Q6. Maharaj Sahab I developed this kind of stigma because this is the only scenario you get to see in the
society.

ANS. Whatever the kind of scenario someone gets to see in the world is dependent on the point of view
of the viewer. Whatever the viewer will want to see he will get to see that. If you want to see respect by
money then you will get to see people getting respect by money. If you will want to see something like
people without money getting respect then you will get to see that also. There should only be seeing
while you are seeing. If there is a motive attached to seeing then that seeing will not remain seeing. This
really is what we do in sadhna. we are observing breath and sensation then there is no motive behind
that observation. We are doing it with an equanimous mind. That is why bhagwan mahaveer says ”there
should only be seeing while you are seeing” ”there should only be listening while you are listening”
”there should only be speaking while you are speaking” ”there should only be walking while you are
walking” ”there should only be sitting while you are sitting”.

Q7. Maharaj Sahab earlier I didn’t use to have these kind of thoughts . later on they developed.

ANS. You should let the thoughts be only thoughts. Don’t get attached to them. To think is the function
of the mind. The mind has been designed to think. There is nothing wrong if thoughts come. What is
wrong is to get attached with thoughts. “This thought didn’t use to come earlier now it comes.” “This
thought used to come before, now it doesn’t come.” All these kinds of mental games are attachment
with thoughts. It is also not so that thoughtless stage means to not have any thoughts. Even if the
thoughts are coming and we are not getting attached to them, that is also a category of thoughtless
stage. To not get thoughts is a thoughtless stage but if they are coming and we are not getting attached
to them then that is also a thoughtless stage. These thoughts come and go like winds. Don’t get attached
to them. If you don’t get attached to thoughts and observe breath and sensations then the clouds of
karmas which are hiding the soul will get loosened up. This body that we have is made up of karmas
only. This body is a collection of karmas. Those who attain omniscience or nirvana their body stops being
in existence. When bhagwan mahaveer attained omniscience then all his karmas got expended. When
all his karmas got expended, his body got evaporated. After that the people of pawapuri , in the
devotion that “bhagwan mahaveer stayed here ” started taking away the soil of that place with them
and that place turned into a pond. This body is also non living and the one who is seeing it is also non
living. This body itself self indulgent and it is itself the observer.

2
COMMENT- I think it require the great amount of hard work to change ourselves from being self
indulgent to being an observer.

EXPLANATION- no, you just have to have the right mindset. You just have to make up your mind that
sadhna is the only indulgence and the self indulgent nature of yours will automatically stop being in
existence.

The body is the view and the body itself is the viewer. The body observes itself. The soul is the
personification of knowledge. We can explain in such a way, if we want to explain, that soul sees but
soul doesn’t do anything. Soul is just knowledge.

Q8. Then doesn’t knowledge see?

ANS. Don’t you think that a non living entity can only be seen by a non living entity. Soul is only
knowledge. Knowledge sees but why are you pestering the soul which is the president for such a menial
job. Also what purpose do we have with the observer? Let whoever be the observer be the observer.
This is not our business to mind. The only job we have to do is to observe the breath and sensations.

Q9. Maharaj Sahab above all I would just like to say that my main aim is only to get ahead in sadhana.

ANS. Ok that is good. However you should now make a little change in this aim. You don’t have to do
sadhana to get ahead in sadhana. Sadhana has to be done only and only to do sadhana. Your aim should
be that “I should do sadhana”.
