There were two Dassault Systemes (DS) products presented including study cases are

namely SolidWorks Simulation & Simulia Abaqus. The accuracy of the simulation with DS
product is around 92-98% for simple simulation and complex simulation (compared with
real experiments).
The following are several case studies presented using SolidWorks Simulation software:
1. Pressure vessel
Simulations for pressure vessels can use 3D model or 2D model (surface base) design
types. One of the parameters analyzed is the pressure distribution in each critical
area. This pressure distribution is simulated to determine the permitted pressure to
comply with the specification or standard of the pressure vessel model.
2. Valve
Simulations in the valve industry are generally carried out to find pressure drop
values with condition variables in the form of valve opening percentages, usually
around 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. The purpose of this simulation is to find out whether
the valve model designed is in accordance with standards or not. For detailed or
complex simulations in critical areas such as the performance of a seal in a valve, it is
necessary to use Simulia Abaqus software so that the resulting analysis is more
accurate.
3. Heat exchanger
In heat exchanger design, simulations are generally carried out to find the heat
distribution values at the inlet and outlet valves with the aim of seeing whether the
performance of the heat exchanger design is in accordance with permitted standards
or not. Apart from heat distribution, pressure distribution simulations are also
commonly used in this design.
4. Piping
In the piping industry, generally there are several parameters that are analyzed,
including pressure, temperature, and flow, with applications to prevent pipe
buckling (if the pipe is embedded) and piping stress (usually applied to pipe
connections, such as bolts, welds, and clamps).
The following are several case studies presented using Simulia Abaqus software:
1. Drilling Machine (Mining)
For drilling machines, the simulations generally carried out are to find the service life
of certain components of machines that operate with repetitive movements (fatigue
analysis). Apart from that, the factor of safety (FoS) value on the machine structure
is also simulated for safety aspects when the machine is operated.
2. Excavator
Generally, in the mining industry the excavator parts analyzed are the arm bucket
structure to prevent overload when operating, and the condition of the air
conditioner (AC) fluid can also be analyzed for the comfort factor of the excavator
operator.
3. Dump Truck
Generally, the simulation carried out on dump trucks is analysis of the bucket
support structure when dumping is carried out to prevent overload which results in
failure of the bucket support structure
4. Discrete Model
Discrete model is an analysis of particle models that are in direct contact with an
object. This analysis is usually carried out to find the value of angle of repose,
particle flow, particle mixing. Discrete analysis can also be carried out to find stress
values on objects that are in direct contact with particles, such as stress on conveyor
belts and stress on chutes, apart from that, drop test packaging can also be carried
out to determine the suitability of the packaging model and minimum load.
5. Weld Analysis
The welding area can also be analyzed with Simulia Abaqus software. One of the
parameters analyzed is the distortion value and heat distribution during the welding
process and after welding.
