Analysis of Morality of Sam Ratulangi University Student Batch 20

Abstract
This study explores the moral perspectives and experiences of students enrolled in Universitas
Sam Ratulangi's Batch 20. The research aimed to understand the nuances of ethical awareness,
personal moral codes, and the influence of the university environment on shaping moral behavior
within the academic setting. Qualitative approach was employed, involving a survey instrument with
qualitative components. Qualitative insights were obtained from open-ended responses. The findings
revealed a diverse range of personal moral values guiding decision-making among the student cohort.
Additionally, perceptions of the university's role in fostering ethical development varied among
respondents, with suggestions for enhancing ethical education and support systems. This study
contributes to the ongoing discourse on morality in academic settings, providing insights into the
multifaceted nature of moral perspectives among students within the specified university cohort.

1. Introduction
Morality within academic settings stands as a fundamental aspect of shaping ethical
consciousness and decision-making among students, contributing significantly to their personal and
professional development. Within the context of higher education, understanding the moral
perspectives and experiences of students becomes paramount for fostering an environment that
promotes ethical awareness and responsible behavior. This study endeavors to delve into the intricate
landscape of morality among students enrolled in Universitas Sam Ratulangi's Batch 20, aiming to
unravel the multifaceted dimensions of ethical awareness and decision-making processes within the
academic milieu.
The investigation of morality among students within the higher education landscape has
garnered considerable attention in scholarly discourse. Previous research has illuminated the influence
of academic environments on the cultivation of moral values, highlighting the pivotal role of
educational institutions in nurturing ethical reasoning and behavior among students (Smith, 2017;
Jones et al., 2020). However, an in-depth exploration focusing on the perspectives and experiences of
a specific student cohort, such as Batch 20 of Universitas Sam Ratulangi, remains an area that
necessitates closer examination.
This study adopts a qualitative approach, acknowledging the richness and depth inherent in
exploring moral values, ethical dilemmas, and decision-making processes through narratives and lived
experiences. By engaging in in-depth interviews with purposively selected students, this research aims
to unravel the personal moral codes, ethical considerations, and challenges encountered within the
academic journey of Batch 20 students at Universitas Sam Ratulangi.
The insights garnered from this qualitative exploration endeavor to contribute to the existing
body of knowledge on morality in higher education contexts. Through a nuanced understanding of the
moral landscapes within this specific student cohort, this study aspires to inform educational
practices, policies, and interventions aimed at fostering an environment conducive to ethical
development and responsible decision-making among students.
2. Research Method
This study adopts a qualitative research approach to explore the multifaceted dimensions of moral
perspectives and experiences among students from Universitas Sam Ratulangi's Batch 20. Qualitative
research offers a nuanced understanding of individuals' subjective experiences and perceptions,
allowing for an in-depth exploration of moral values and decision-making processes within the
academic context. Purposive sampling was utilized to select participants, ensuring a diverse
representation of students from Batch 20, semi-structured interviews were conducted as the primary
data collection method. The interview guide was designed to elicit comprehensive narratives
regarding moral values, ethical dilemmas, and decision-making experiences within the university.

3. Findings
This research found that all the respondent are understand the moral terms. Morality is simply
a good human behaviour and/or character. Moral in education is important because it will create good
learning atmosphere. In a belief of moral values affecting decision-making in personal and education,
half of the students are believe that moral values are effecting the decision making whether it is
personal or educational context. And the rest of the students are not too sure of moral values because
of that nowadays the world is dominated by money, and money is more valuable than moral
The most important value and principle that students believe is honesty. Honesty is importan
for the students decision making process, as well as the respect for others. Around 70% lecturer and
the University staff are supportive in promoting ethical behavior, as for the resource or the supportive
system that can help student to overcome ethical problem, student suggest to form a discussion forum
or debate groups that present ethical issues can give students the opportunity to discuss and share
views with fellow students and lecturers.
To increase ethical awareness and practice, universities can correct ethical problems from
above and provide an example of good ethics and be able to be consistent in the decisions taken. For
example, there is no reduction in sanctions for a student who breaks the rules just because he is the
lecturer's child. Also, to increase ethical awareness even more the universities can provide material
and training related to good ethical behavior. As for the ethical issue in the policies and practice, the
university is not yet enough to overcome it.
Friendship turns out to be the most influence when it comes to shape moral behavior of the
student in university, this proven by the answer of the student which all of the respondent say so.

4. Conclusion
In the data above we can say that morality and ethical behavior are important not just in academic
life but also in everyday life, as it influence the decision making of the student. Some of the student
strongly believe that honesty is the most important value and principle that can shape morality and
ethical behavior. Ethical issues are hard to deal with, that is why the university is not yet enough to
overcome it. In college life, ethical awareness can be increase if the university provide some support
like giving study material and practice related to morality and ethical awareness.
It is better for the universities to provide any means necessary to increase moral and ethical
awareness of the student as these things are very important in life, not just in academic life but also in
everyday life. The university also need to increase their effort to overcome ethical issues that
happened in the university, their staff, and the student.
