Before we proceed let me introduce the meaning of Research and Education.

So, what is Research?

Research is the careful consideration of study regarding a particular concern or research problem using scientific methods.

On the other hand, Education is regarded of all the processes by which a person develops abilities, attitudes and other forms of behaviour of
practical values in the society in which she or he lives.

The core purpose of this presentation is to understand the importance of research in education. Research is widely regarded as providing
benefits to individuals and to local, regional, national and international community’s involved in the education system. The thrust areas of this
presentation are the Importance of Research in Education, the Distribution of Research in Education and lastly, the Examples of Research in
Education.

So, now Irish please discuss What are the Importance of Research in Education

So first we have here, Research in Education helps to understand any subject and its principals in much better and easier way which will
encounter new questions and search for answers of those questions will lead us to learn new theories of any subject.

Second, Research helps in identifying the research gaps, learning gaps at various levels of education system and tries to bridge the gap
between what is existing and what is expected. Morris (1967) mentioned that “research concerning social aspects of education ensures the
development of children and teaching method”.

Thirdly, Research professionals are always learning, finding out things, analyzing information, adapting their behavior according to
information received, looking to improve and adapting to modern demands and thus social science research helps in well being society,
social and educational institutions as stated by Rathnakar, G (2018).

Rathnakar, G (2018).

Fourthly, Research findings could be beneficial for teachers, teacher educators, administrators, policy makers, parents and other
stakeholders involved in the education sector. Research findings could be implemented in classroom teaching learning process to bridge the
learning gaps. Findings could be used in teacher training programmes, curriculum development programmes and also in formulating
education policies.

Fifth is, Research methodologies give teachers the tools to analyze and make informed decisions about their practice. Researches can help in
professional development of teachers and teacher educators and also orient and prepare them to acquire 21 st century skills in order to
implement new educational strategies, evaluation techniques in education system. Teachers should be enabled to use and integrate
relevant findings and scientific theories of educational research in their professional actions and decisions.

And Lastly, Researches in education help in analyzing perceptions, attitudes of students’ teachers, teacher educators, parents and other
stakeholders on different issues related to education sector, local and global environment. Thus research findings indicate and suggests
possible remedies to those issues keeping in mind the views of stakeholders involved.

Contributions of Research in Education

Improving Teaching and Learning: Educational research helps identify effective teaching methods, curriculum designs, and assessment
strategies. It informs educators about what works best in the classroom, leading to improved student outcomes.

Innovation: Research drives innovation in education. It helps develop new technologies, teaching tools, and learning resources that can
enhance the educational experience. For example, the integration of online learning platforms and educational apps.

Policy Development: Policymakers rely on educational research to make informed decisions about education policies, funding allocation, and
reforms. Research findings can influence the creation of policies that address issues such as equity, inclusion, and teacher training.

Teacher Professional Development: Research provides insights into effective professional development programs for teachers. It helps
educators stay current with best practices and adapt to changing classroom dynamics.

Student Assessment: Research helps in the development of standardized tests and assessment tools, ensuring that they are valid and reliable
measures of student performance.

Evidence-Based Decision-Making: Educational research promotes evidence-based decision-making at all levels of education, from individual
classrooms to national policies. It encourages educators and administrators to base their actions on data and research findings.

Understanding Learning Processes: Research helps us gain a deeper understanding of how students learn, including cognitive processes,
motivation, and individual differences. This knowledge informs instructional strategies and curriculum development.

Global Perspective: Educational research often involves cross-cultural and international studies, allowing educators to learn from practices and
experiences in different parts of the world and adapt them to their own contexts.

Continuous Improvement: Research promotes a culture of continuous improvement in education. It encourages educators and institutions to
reflect on their practices and seek ways to enhance educational outcomes.

EXAMPLES OF RESEARCH IN EDUCATION

First example is, For her Ph.D. from the University of Saint La salle, Salma Nargis (2013) designed a study with the broad objective of
introducing a curriculum and syllabi for moral education in Phillipines at the primary level. In doing so, she presented the background of her
research as follows:

The present world is gradually recognizing the significance of moral and ethical education.

People are now facing a great moral crisis. To set our society free from this catastrophe, it is essential to rekindle conscience and awareness
of morality in human behavior. Rousing moral consciousness, in the real sense of the word, is not possible in a day.

It needs to be put into continuous practice. This can be accomplished if children are given proper education in a planned way from the very
beginning.

In this case, moral education should remain an inevitable part of the primary level education system’s syllabi, textbooks, and academic plan.

Teaching some grave, epigrammatic, and didactic lines will not lead us to the desired goal. Ethics should be implanted in the hearts and
minds of the children in a way that their future lifestyle and approach may reflect the ethical practice spontaneously.

For this, the education system should be restructured to achieve long-term and ultimate success in this matter. Significant research should
be done based on short-term and long-term planning.

The stream of knowledge should flow in such a direction that children can get the correct guidelines. The moral instructions should be
specific and practical. A child should be able to choose the precise step or the process at the right time. This will be possible if the education
system is organized based on sufficient research.
This research is expected to contribute to inventing the procedure of teaching ethics and introducing a specific system at the primary
education level for developing a child’s personality. Suppose moral education can be successfully included in the curriculum exercised in the
educational institutions of Phillipines . In that case, the students will be able to build their future with the strength of morality. A morally
enlightened future generation will build an ethically aware nation that ultimately will work as a force for the rise of a purely liberal grand
society.

This research will not only work as a guide for the policymakers and planners of the primary level education system but also for the teachers
and scholars related to the central education system and thus will ensure progress and development in the education system as a whole.

Second example is, The Impact of Online Learning Strategies on Students Academic Performance.

Higher education institutions have shifted from traditional face to face to online teaching due to Corona virus pandemic which has forced
both teachers and students to be put in a compulsory lockdown. However the online teaching/learning constitutes a serious challenge that
both teachers and students have to face, as it necessarily requires the adoption of different new teaching/learning strategies to attain
effective academic outcomes, imposing a virtual learning world which involves from the students’ part an online access to lectures and
information, and on the teacher’s side the adoption of a new teaching approach to deliver the curriculum content, new means of evaluation
of students’ personal skills and learning experience.

Last is the, TEACHER EXPECTATIONS ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Teacher expectations exert a profound influence on student achievement, shaping the educational landscape in ways that extend far beyond
the classroom walls. Over the years, researchers and educators have recognized the power of these expectations to either propel students
to greater heights or inadvertently hinder their academic progress. The phenomenon of teacher expectations encompasses the implicit
assumptions, beliefs, and judgments that educators hold about their student’s abilities, potential, and future prospects. These expectations
can manifest in subtle ways, yet their impact on student motivation, self-perception, and performance can be remarkably significant.
Understanding the complex interplay between teacher expectations and student achievement is crucial for creating equitable and inclusive
learning environments that foster academic success for all. This comprehensive study explores the multifaceted nature of teacher
expectations, delves into the mechanisms through which they influence student outcomes, and offers insights to optimize their positive
effects on educational experiences. By uncovering the underlying dynamics and implications of teacher expectations, this article aims to
empower educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to cultivate an educational ecosystem where every student can thrive and reach their
full potential. The effects of teacher expectations on student achievement.
