2.1 Disassembly. 3. Remove the six 12 point cap screws from the
sides of the oil pan. See Figure 4.
NOTE
The power divider assembly weighs
approximately 572 lbs. Use a lifting device
capable of lifting more than 572 lbs.
1. Lift the power divider assembly using a suitable 1
lifting device. See Figure 2 for the power divider
lift points.

Protect the aluminum power divider
components by covering a solid work surface
with fiber board or something similar. The
aluminum edges can dent easliy if the power
divider is only on a hard solid work surface.

2.2 Assembly.

NOTE
The use of an oven and freezer will aid in the
assembly of the power divider housing. The
oven temperature should be approximately 250°
F (121° C) and the freezer -80° F (-62° C).

NOTE
A hydraulic press is required for assembly.

NOTE
Thoroughly clean all mounting surfaces of dirt,
grease or gasket material prior to assembly.
1. Mark the idler assembly parts (bearings, races,
spindle and gear) so that they are assembled in
a matched set. Mark one set as 1 and the

10. Check the idler assembly end play. Position a


dial indicator on the face of the idler gear. See
Figure 17.
11. Pry up gently on both sides of the idler gear and
check the reading on the dial indicator.
Acceptable end play is 0.0005-0.002. See
Figure 17.

housing will heat the housing enough to help
with component installation.

26. Press the frozen spindle into the housing using a
hydraulic press. See Figure 24. Make sure that
the gear, bearings, shims, and spacer are
aligned with the shaft when pressed in.

33. With the oil lines installed and tightened, tighten

Thoroughly clean all mounting surfaces of dirt,
grease or gasket material prior to assembly.

Press dowel pins so that they are flush with the

10. Install the clutch drive cup onto the 35 tooth
gear. Secure the cup to the gear with six cap
screws (0.38-16 x 1.0 in). Apply Loctite® 242 to
the threads of cap screws and torque 35 ft. lbs.
(47 Nm). See Figure 58.
