IDENTIFY CONCERNS
I want to learn how to become the best Family and Consumer Sciences teacher I can be.

SET A GOAL
By December 15, I will know how to properly prepare a lesson plan and be able to teach and
manage an FCS class according to the Idaho state standards.

FORM A PLAN (WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW, COST, RESOURCES, AND EVALUATION)
I will observe Mrs. Campbell's 7/8 Young Living class on September 29, then prepare and teach a
lesson on Table Setting and Etiquette on November 8 at Madison Jr. High School in Rexburg,
Idaho. To do this, I will email Mrs. Campbell to arrange the dates. To prepare, I will use the
Danielson Model template to make my lesson plan and practice teaching with my roommates and
a recording device called "GoReact." It will cost $40 for fingerprinting and $3 for a nametag in order
for me to go in a public school as a teacher candidate, then I will spend about $2 on construction
paper for an activity during the lesson. My resources include my personal computer, my FCS
Practicum teacher/FCCLA advisor, the internet, PowerPoint, and table setting and etiquette
worksheets. I will evaluate my experience by recording and reviewing it on GoReact, meet with my
FCS teacher afterwards to discuss how things went, and fill out a Sample Teacher
Self-Assessment form.

ACT I emailed Mrs. Campbell to coordinate a time I could come and observe one of her classes which
happened on September 29. Then, after a month we were able to schedule a time that I could
come and teach her class. The topic was Table Setting & Etiquette, so I planned my lesson and
presented it to her class on November 8. I used GoReact to record myself so that I could go back
and evaluate my teaching, and I received feedback from my FCS Practicum teacher.

FOLLOW UP
Overall, the lesson went really well. I connected well with the students and strived to build their
trust which created a good, comfortable environment and made me more confident to present my
lesson. I was able to assess the students' learning through worksheets and verbal responses to my
check-point questions.

What I think could have gone better is make sure everyone participates and answers questions
instead of just the same person answering the questions all the time. I also wish I had gotten to
know them and their names better.
