PROBLEM 1: DEEP COMPACTION

A site investigation study (borings, field and laboratory tests) together with a study of seismic
activity at the location showed that liquefaction potential is high. Study the following two ground
improvement alternatives below for a 4-storey school building to be constructed at the site.

1- Sand compaction piles (Vibroflotation)


2- Dynamic Compaction (Heavy Tamping)
