Think and Write: Example answers:
Winter Predators Sentence 1: The fierce, camouflaged owl stared intently at the tiny,
brown mouse.

Sentence 2: She would remain hidden until she knew it was the
right moment to pounce.

Sentence 3: The owl’s eyes never moved from its prey.

Sentence 4: As quick as a flash, she skilfully dived from the sky and
grabbed the mouse.

Sentence 5: “Got you,” the owl hooted to herself.


Wonderful Winter Accept eight sentences which contain correctly used adverbials,
Adverbials such as:

Everywhere she looked, Linda could only see the mist.

North of here, towns and cities are covered with snow.

Gloriously, the Northern Lights lit up the sky.


The Winter Spirit Answers:
and His Visitor 1) The old man was sitting in his lodge beside a frozen stream.

2) Accept a response that indicates that ‘desolate’ means lonely.

3) Accept locks and ringlets.

4) Answers will vary but accept any reasonable similarity and


difference. For example: The characters are similar because they
both have a special power. They are different because one is very old
and one is young.

5) Answers should refer to the seasons. For example I believe the


old man is winter because he brings cold and snow whereas the
younger man is the spring because he brings rain and the flowers
begin to grow.

Icy Instructions Accept a set of instructions which includes all of the steps mentioned
in the recount and is presented correctly, utilising a numbered list
and beginning each instruction with an imperative verb or time
conjunction.
