TOPIC 4: SERVING OTHERS IN THE SPIRIT

What is service?
Service is the act of helping other people who are in need.
A servant is a person who provides help to people in need.

EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE WHO ACCEPTED GOD’S CALL TO SERVE


Mother Teresa

- Mother Teresa was the founder of the


Order of the Missionaries of Charity.
- This was a Roman Catholic congregation
of women dedicated to help the poor.
- She created rehabilitation homes for lepers.

Dr. Matthew Lukwiya


- He treated Ebola patients at Lacor Hospital in
Gulu.
- He built isolation wards at Lacor Hospital for
Ebola patients.
- He contacted ebola and died on 5th
December, 2000.
Dr. Lucille Teasdale.
- She built St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in

Gulu.

- She cared for the needy people.

Janet Kataha Museveni


 She founded the Uganda
Women’s Effort to Save Orphans
(UWESO).
 UWESO takes care of orphans in
Uganda.

Noureen Kaleba
 She is the founder of
TASO.
 TASO takes care of
HIV/AIDS victims.

Examples of relief organizations that serve people
a) The Uganda women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO)
- Cares for orphans by proving shelter.
- Providing education facilities for orphans.

b) The Aids Support Organization (TASO)


It cares for AIDS victims by;
- Counseling them
- Providing treatment
- Providing food.

c) International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)


It cares for people hit by disasters through;
- providing them with food.
- providing them with medicine.
- providing them with shelter.

d) The World Vision International


Support orphans and peasants by:-
- Building schools
- Building health facilities.
- Providing safe water.

e) The Adventist development relief agency (ADRA)


It cares for people hit by disaster through:
- Building schools.
- Building medical centers.
- Providing safe water
f) Carry American Relief Everywhere (CARE)
 Cares for people hit by disaster by: -
 Providing shelter
 Providing foods
 Providing medical care.

g) Plan International
- Cares for children by:-
- Providing homes
- Providing school fees
