Objectives

z Temperature Monitoring is
essential to maintain cold chain of
a vaccine
z Different temperature monitoring
system
z Introduction of electronic access
control of cold rooms.
Temperature monitoring tools

z Tools for transportation

z Tools for national, state and
regional stores
z Tools for periphery level

z Tools for immunization sessions

Temperature Monitoring Enable

• Confidence that the vaccines

administered have not been
damaged by heat/freezing
• Confidence that the cold chain
equipments are working well.

Chart Recorder
z Records temperature continuously on a
circular chart
z the recorder is set to turn the chart one
complete round in seven days
z Sensors of the Temp. Recorder should be
mounted inside of the cold room at proper
place
z End of the sensors should not touch any metal
surface or any other item.
Fridge tag

z Fridge tag is designed for ILRs

z Low and high temperature alarm indicator
z 30 days temperature recorder (records
max and min temp every day)
z Visual indicator of temperature range
violation
z Digital thermometer
Computerized temperature
monitoring system
What is Multilog

z Electronic Temperature recording device

z Capable of reading temperature from 16
sensors
z Can record temperature from every minute to
every 1 hour frequency
z Can be attached to Automatic Phone dialer
which can call people in case of temperature
violation inside cold room
z Controlled and managed by software running
on windows operating system
Benefits of Multilog System

z Temperature monitoring round the

clock
z Filing temperature records easy: Print
the graphs and reports
z Helps in diagnosis of problems with
cold room performance
z Alerts in problematic situations

Location of Thermostat sensors
z The location of thermostat sensor should be decided after temperature mapping. The
temperature mapping study is performed in empty, partial loaded and fully loaded
condition. Plot the graph and identify the coldest and hottest locations of the
WIC/WIF
z To set temperature, just use common sense. Determine how space will be utilized
and the sizes on the containers within the space. Optimally, there should be enough
sensors evenly spaced throughout the unit, especially where vaccines will be
located. However, No WICs/WIFhave this luxury, and are limited to one thermostat
sensor.
z The WIC stores freeze sensitive vaccines and always place sensor near the coldest
place of the WIC.
In general The coldest part would be front space of the evaporator of the cooling
unit.
z The WIF stores most heat sensitive vaccine OPV and used for preparation of Ice
packs hence in this case the thermostat should be placed near the hottest place of
the WIF, just on opposite wall from the evaporators (see figures).
z The air temperature fluctuates rapidly in comparison to liquid, and can give out-of-
spec data if the temperature range is narrow.
z It is recommended to place thermostat rod immersed in a liquid (water or mercury).
z Though the vaccines safe temperature range for WICs is +2 to 8 deg. Celsius, but
the range of the thermostat should be set for +4 to 8deg. Celsius.

WIC/WIF Access Control

•Itis an electronic access control with smart card and

code.
•The system has an ability to permit or deny the use of
particular resource by a particular entity.
•The access control card have embedded
microprocessor and memory.
•Person operating the smart card system can be
identified through his code numbers so that the
accountability may be achieved.
•All the information such as date/time of opening, time
of closing, temperature at the time opening/closing.

Other features

z 6-14 digit micro-processed serial printer

available for recording information.
z Smart card has long term memory and
transfers the data in to PC.
z Provision of alarm for unauthorized/long
access.
z It delivers the message to the OIC for
unauthorized/long access.
