Nestle is the largest company in the world and has been held as the No.1 company in the world.

They have more than 477 hundred factories located in 194 countries.And they have more than
333,000 employees worldwide. Nestlé’s food and beverage business is managed in five zones
including North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa (AOA), and Greater China.
However, some businesses that are excluded because they are managed globally such as Nespresso
and Nestle Health Science as well as Cereal Partners Worldwide and Froneri. Through this
information, it shows that nestle has a large workforce and a scope that requires an appropriate
leadership structure to achieve goals efficiently and effectively. In order to maintain the company's
performance and progress, the official authority given by the organization is the responsibility of
managers at Nestle to manage, motivate and inspire people to achieve the goals of this organization.
In the Nestle group, there is a leadership team, which is being divided into two groups, namely the
Executive Board and the Board of Directors (Ltd, Leadership at Nestle 2022).

In the board of directors, Paul Bulcke as the former CEO of Nestle, he who has now been promoted
to become the Chairman of Nestle. And then his successor which is Ulf Mark Schneider who was
appointed as the latest CEO of Nestle in June 2016 as well as several other people such as Vice
Chairman, Chair of Audit Committee and etc. The board of directors is the main administrative of the
company and is responsible for developing long-term strategies and the ultimate supervision of the
group. They also oversee the economic, social and environmental aspects of the group. The daily
management of Nestle is managed by the Executive Board, who have been appointed to manage
other branches globally. Among several executive vice presidents namely, Marco Settembri (CEO
Zone Europe), Steven Wood Presley (CEO North America), Remy Ejel (CEO Asia, Oceania), David
Xiqiang Zhang and some heads from the department most importantly others (Our leadership team).

From the speech of former CEO Paul Bulcke stated that Nestle believes in a comprehensive
leadership style – bringing victory, managing results, developing talent and teams, and competing
and proactively communicating with the external environment and providing a competitive
advantage to create shared value for our shareholders and for society. Nestle always contributes to
businesses that facilitate the needs of society. Nestle benefits people, products and brands over
systems. This shows that Nestle cares about employees and consumers(The Nestle Management and
Leadership Principles, 2011).

In leadership style following the "Nestle’ way", most managers from various levels emphasize
leadership and inspiring others. With this, employees can add value to the company and group
based on their own commitment and having a clear mind compared to practicing formal methods. In
Nestle, it shows the need for leadership characteristics that must be present in managing more
efficiently and effectively, including the leading to win where necessary build credibility resulting
from action, leadership and achievement. In addition, leaders need to think from various
perspectives where they can imagine risks and possible mistakes but they can also be prepared to
guide and correct and learn from. A leader whose lifestyle is balanced has a wide range of interests,
an educated, and be responsible person(The Nestle Management and Leadership Principles, 2011).

Leaders are often associated with making important decisions. Through their decisions they must
have the commitment and courage to implement, including the willingness to take initiative and risk
while acting calmly even under pressure of what are the consequences. The next characteristic of
leaders is to be able to develop talents and teams such as building enthusiasm and maintaining an
environment where leaders need to show a positive attitude and appreciation for their efforts that
greatly help the company's progress. Not forgetting also, the importance of competitiveness and
communication outwardly helping towards the progress of society. As a leader must always find
ways to satisfy users and show curiosity and be open-minded about other people's interests,
cultures and lifestyle. Understanding the external environment of operations such as involving
oneself to be collaboration with the community, shareholders and other stakeholders(The Nestle
Management and Leadership Principles, 2011).
