1. Problem Statement (with Background)

1
1.1 Introduction
Harar is a city in eastern Ethiopia and the capital of the Harar Region of the country
Harar Online dwelling and assets management system- is a web based items buying and/or
selling system for houses and other assets like lands. It communicates buyers and sellers meet to
exchange communications, services, and information through accurately specified means of
online system. It’s more advanced than the current applied tradition system in most business
areas. In order to solve the time and resource wasted by informal middle parties, we come up
with understandable and easily accessible web site called Harar Online dwelling and assets
executive system.
The system will conduct public sale for different sort of assets. Harar Online dwelling and assets
management system will minimize resource consumption like time, cost etc made by informal
buyers/sellers meet to exchange goods and services. Additionally, it will open new era of
handling business using E-commerce which makes life much easier.
Harar Online dwelling and assets management system starts conducting service at the time when
assets and houses are made available on the site by sellers. The system contribute a lot of
additional features’ to the auction business environment like, Before log in to the web site any
user can search and look for an item which is made available for sell. If any user wants to buy or
sell a product first user have to get registered as a customer with the privilege of buyer, seller or
as buyer/seller. Once customers registered they can log in to the system by selecting their
granted privilege and can perform any transaction (Buying, selling, uploading and so on).
When sellers want to sell a merchandise they are allowed to fill merchandise information like
place of the asset, short text descriptions, uploading assets image and proposal information’s like
initial price , time when products are made available for sell, buyers can start buy for the assets.
The system also advertise different dweller and assets of customers by using different images
and photos.
1.2 Statement of the problem and justification
Regarding with place management, time consumption, data handling and fairness the existing
system has the following problems:
 Deals are done only through middle person called brokers etc.
 No competition is done while sales. Customers just submit their maximum price on
envelop or directly can contact the seller

2
 No use photos to publish online advertisement in any country or region of the
world.
 It consumes much time to perform each and every activity step by step.
 It’s a must to attend physically at the place where the assets are there. Because, in
order to look at the place and make decision.
 Doesn’t give time for customers to know more about the assets.
 Final price become limited as compared to the price it expected to have if the
product’s has more life time in public sale process.
 Our new system is web based online dwelling items buying and/or selling system
for houses and other assets there is no need for buyer and seller to attend
physically at the place of assets.
 There is no middle person involved in new system.

Limitation of the project

 Limitations are problems that occur when the team is doing the works.
That includes:-
 Sudden fluctuation of power.
 May be Sickness of group members.
 If the computer attack by virus.
 Internet connection problem.
 Time limitation.
 Resource related problems.
 To solve the above problems we have used different techniques for protecting the data
from infection. The methods include making copies in CD-RW, flash and copying on the
other computers.

2. Project Goal and Objectives

2.1General Objective
The general objective of our website is changing the traditional way of sells system by a
web based computerized and easily implemented System. People can easily find assets what they
need to buy like house and land.

2.2 Specific Objective

In order the general objective to be achievable in a successful way and so that it can improve
the whole entire working environment there are some specific objectives we should take care of.
They are:
 Secured way of data handling mechanism.
 Make competitive with other organization.
 To get a well-defined information about available items.
 Analyze and identify the requirements needed.
 Additional features like sellers or buyers feedback score.
 Makes promotion of business on new product
3. Scope
3.1 Scope of the project
Online dwelling and assets management system is an E-commerce web site with main features of
 Buying of assets Any person or organization can buy any type of assets from the
customers.
 Selling of assets The auctioneer can sell any type of products for any person or
organization.

 Registering new users to the system

 Prepares an account for them to access the engine based on their privilege.
 It allows buy and sell on any kind of asset which is available.
 The system will keep track of each and every transaction applied either by the seller
or buyer. It has main features of buying, selling, and other additional features like
advertisement.

4
Like when sellers upload new items’ info to be sold; users search and look for items Because of,
budget and time our project is limited only satisfying the general objectives and do major work
on the specific objectives.
4. Significance of the project

Significant of the project

We expect that the proposed system has major significant for Harar community. Some of the
them are:
 Buyers can search and easily find what they need.
 Advertise and promote on products or services.
 Easy and speedy way of communication between seller and buyer.
 Sellers deliver product to meet their customers need.
 Fulfill what customer needs.
 Be reliable and honest
 To describe stable cost of assets.
 Be familiar with e-commerce website .
 24 hour working time.

5. Methodology

Methodologies and tools

5.1 Data source and data collection methods
Observations:
We have used interview, observation and document analysis in order to determine the
information, which is used in the existing system and to develop the dynamic web based system.

Interview
We will be gather information by interviewing the Harar people about the existing traditional
dwelling and assets work. The questions we have prepared were open ended questions. We
choose this type questions we can get detailed information about the existing system. It’s the
easiest way of data collection which is done between individuals orally. It’s the most effective
data gathering method since the interview is done face to face and able to collect primary data.
5
Practical observation
 Enables us to list out the existing system problems, since it is what we see or observe in
reality.
5.2 Document analysis
Documents are one of the basic sources for the project development. Relevant documents and
techniques that help to improve the performance of database. How they are arranging, accessing
styles, security etc..
5.3 Requirement Modeling Technique
1.6.1Hardware Requirements
Any computer which can support windows 7 or windows 8 and with the following minimum
specifications
 500 GB Hard disk
 512 MB RAM
 CD-RW: for storing data
 Flash: for moving or exchange of data from one computer to another

After requirement gathering we used object oriented analysis approach to model the new
system. Object oriented analysis is our choice to develop new system, because it focuses
more on capturing the real world objects in current system that are important to the new
system. Modeling techniques used in object oriented analysis are UML (Unified modeling
language), that can present both structural and procedural aspect of the system. UML
includes:-

 Use case diagram

 Class diagram
 State diagram
 Sequence diagram
 Collaboration diagram
 Component diagram
 Deployment diagram
 Activity diagram

Tools
 The tools we are going to use for document analysis in our project are:

6
 Microsoft office 2007:- For documentation as word processor
 edraw:- in order to model the system requirement in UML (unified modeling language).
 Xara website 3.0:.for interface design
 Notepad++ - for client side scripting(for code editing)
 During Implementation, we are going to use;
For front end:
 Microsoft Dream weaver (8)
 JavaScript:-script language enable as to constraint client side interactions.
 Css:-styling our page to attract.
 PHP: - for server-side scripting.
For back end:
 My SQL Database: - for storing the data that are going to be retrieved later.
Server that we use
 Wamp: - – for making the computer, we are working on, a server is apache
