The activity consists of:

Step 1: Checking the eBook Content

Check and develop all content related to eBook B1 level, Modules 5, 6, 7 and 8 as a prior
revision. Then, post on the forum some screenshots of your practice on it.

2
3
Step 2: Reading in context

Then, make a conscious reading of the story “A fable for tomorrow” By Rachel Carson.
You can start your reading it by clicking the following link: https://bit.ly/3NxayE0.

Step 3: Checking what you got

After reading the story, answer the following suggested questions, in English. Then,
publish them on the forum:

a. How was the town at the beginning of the story?

The story tells us about a town in the Americas full of nature and beauty, full of natural
grandeur that encompassed everything around it, filling it with beauty and pleasure to

4
everyone who saw it. We are also told that the town was a peaceful place, both , for humans
and all kinds of animals that rejoiced in it, filling the town with life and peace.

b. How is it currently?

After the town was surrounded by life, peace and tranquility, death and the uncertainty of
life began to arrive, it was there when all hope, both human and animal, began to fade, in a
few hours the town was full of death, of misery and pain, everything good and beautiful about
him had been lost, in an instant everything changed.

c. How is it predicted to be in the future?

It is predicted that in the future the vegetation will return to what it once was at the
beginning there will be life, peace and tranquility

d. In your opinion, does the story give any message for us? Which one? Explain it
on your own words.

The message that this beautiful story leaves me is that sometimes we must value the things
we have, we have the opportunity to see them every day and for that simple fact we do not
give them the value they really have, but when they begin to become scarce and there are few
days in which you can take advantage of it, that is when we begin to miss the moments in
which we had the opportunity to have them close, this teaches us to appreciate people and
everything that surrounds us.

Step 4: Brainstorming

5
“A fable of tomorrow” is a story that shows how people’s intervention or settlements have
caused irremediable consequences in a town. Nowadays, the overpopulation and consumerism
has allowed the increase of factories and enterprises that pollute and overexploit
nonrenewable natural resources, causing irreparable damages to the environment.

To be conscious about this issue, you are going to brainstorm some ideas for creating your
own story which the main topic is the problem related in the “Fable of tomorrow”, for that,
you have to complete the brainstorming chart. After doing it, you must post it on the forum.

The chart is the following:

Table 1. Brainstorming information

Title of your story Let's recover our future

Characters of your story Pablito, Doña Juana, Carmen y Carlitos

Place that takes place your story. Town

Conflict in your story Ilegal minery

Description of the place before the conflict. Full of life, peace, joy and abundant nature.

Description of the place after the conflict. Death, abandonment, sadness and chaos

Description of the place in the future. Harmony, tranquility and nature

Conclusion of your story Love and time heal everything

Step 5: Creation of a story (Final product)

6
According to the information you add in the chart (step 4), now, you must compose your
story by using that information, which is the final product of this task. For that, you must
consider these aspects:

a. Your story must contain, at least, four paragraphs (each paragraph must contain
between 5 and 6 lines) where you explain the problem of your story. You can
consider the following proposal for doing it:

• First paragraph: introducing the place, the characters by giving descriptions of

theirs (5 to 6 lines).

• Second paragraph: Explain the causes of the conflict by describing character’s

actions against the place’s environment and how this is affecting it (5 to 6
lines).

• Third paragraph: Describe how those actions have affected as the environment
as the population (5 to 6 lines).

• Fourth paragraph: describe the consequences of those actions, plus the

conclusions (positive or negative) if your story proposes a solution (5 to 6
lines).

b. To have coherence and cohesion in your story, you must use linking words, to check
which are the best for your text, you can click in the following link:
https://bit.ly/3fxip8b

c. To have a better understanding of your text’s ideas, consider the correct use of
punctuation.

7
d. Optional: you can add pictures to support the development of your story, if you want,
just use maximum 3 pictures.

Let's recover our future

This story has its beginnings in a place far, far away, a town called Rasel, full of nature,
peace, lots of fauna and flora. It was a comfortable and harmonious place for all those who
lived there. Entering the town, we found the first family that resides in Rasel, Doña Juana,
along with her children; Carmen and Carlitos, and her husband; Pablito, are one of the
families that are happiest and most joyful to be able to enjoy all the natural wealth that this
beautiful town offers them.

Thanks to the great nature that the town had, Pablito had a farm full of all kinds of animals
and lakes with all kinds of fish. One day, Pablito left his farm and saw that there was heavy
machinery, and he began to wonder, why is there heavy machinery here, if there is no
company that exploits natural resources? Pablito, along with his wife Juana, were very happy.
, very calm and were very loved by the entire town, since with their farm they brought food to
many of the town's houses.

8
When days and days go by, and the heavy machinery continued in the place, that is when
Pablito begins to see the changes in nature, the turquoise waters of the area began to turn
dark, the town of Rasel began to complain, because there was no clean water to survive. This
is where the chaos begins, the heavy machinery was from illegal mining that was damaging
the ecosystem, from the inside out.

The waters turning dark and not being able to consume it, led to many of the animals,
which were on Pablito's farm and other farms, beginning to die, all the fish that swam in the
lake began to die, and all The life that existed in the town began to fade away, and many of
the inhabitants began to leave the town, because they did not see life there. After having been
surrounded by nature and peace, it was now surrounded by darkness, oil stains. They filled all
the lakes and rivers of the town

9
Illegal mining and large industries are the main causes of impacts on changes in nature.
Thanks to these large industries, which only seek to fill their pockets with money regardless
of the ecosystem they damage, thousands of animals die because of these industries, illegal
mining and forest fires, many animals are in danger of extinction.
