Wonders Schedule For Reading
Wonders Schedule For Reading
● 90 minutes of ELA instruction are required, ideally the writing/grammar/spelling block would
make up 60 of the 90 minutes (90 of 120 minutes in the K-2 classrooms)
● The guided reading lessons are color coded to match the Wonders series (approaching- gold,
on level- blue, beyond- green)
● The lessons listed below are the CORE components of Wonders.
● The majority of the times listed correlate to Wonders’ recommendations. Remember our
trainer said those are approximations.
● Do not feel like you have to teach a 40 minute whole group lesson followed by 20 minutes of
guided reading. Mix it up. Try a 20 whole-20 guided-20 whole approach or 20 guided-20
whole-20 guided. Find what works for you and your students!
● Keep reading instruction during the reading block. Instructional reading students should not
lose instructional time sitting through a lesson in which they did not or can not participate.
● If you are struggling to find time in your day, consider doing another guided reading block
during your Title time. If you choose to do this, the only requirement is that you find time to
meet with Tier 3 students (going to Title all 5 days) at another time in the day. Their Title
interventions are not considered core instruction.
