THE RAINBOW CONNECTION

ACT 1, SCENE 1: TRISTAN AND JASPER SAVES THE INNOCENT

Tristan, 22, and Jasper, 23, are a young gay couple
from New York City that have magical powers. Their
life's mission is to save humanity from the Dark
Forces, the source of all evil that wants to reign
terror all throughout the Human Realm.

EXT - CENTRAL PARK, NIGHT, NEW YORK CITY

TRISTAN
(urgent)
Jasper, we have to get everyone out of here before things get
ugly.
JASPER
I know. (beat) Where's the book?
TRISTAN
Shit. I knew I was forgetting something.
JASPER
Where is it?
TRISTAN
I don't remember where I left it.
JASPER
How can you not remember where you left it? It's literally
been adjoin to you by the hip ever since you were in diapers.
TRISTAN
I don't know. The last time I had it was when I (slight
pause) went down to the Underworld to track down the Dark
Forces.
JASPER
No wonder your powers have been acting up.
(beat)
You must've dropped the book as you were leaving the
Underworld.
TRISTAN
Oh my god. Why me?
JASPER
Now The Dark Forces have it.

TRISTAN
They severed my connection to the book. Now they are going to
harness all of its power and turn it evil.
JASPER
You need to rebuild that connection and fast, because you
don't stand a chance against them with your powers all out of
whack.
TRISTAN
I don't know if I can.
JASPER
Yes you can. I believe in you. All you have to do is focus
your mind's eye on the book and then it'll appear.
TRISTAN
Okay, I got this. (beat) But what if it doesn't work?
JASPER
Trust me Tris, it will. You are so much stronger than you
realize. Just take a deep breath in and a deep breath out.
TRISTAN
(breathes in and breathes
out)
Okay.
(beat)
I'm ready.
Tristan closes his eyes, focuses on the book, an
ancient spell pops up into their head and as the book
is slowly being brought down from the overpass, he
recites.
TRISTAN (CONT'D)
Llamo al más antiguo de los dioses, para que me devuelva El
Libro de las Luces.
TRISTAN (CONT'D)
(excitement)
It worked. Oh my god it worked!
JASPER
I knew you could do it.
TRISTAN
What would I do without you?
JASPER
I don't know, you tell me.

TRISTAN
Alright sexy, now that we have the book, let's get everyone
out of here.
(flips the pages and finds
the path of freedom spell)
Found it. The spell requires two people. Think you can handle
it?
JASPER
I can manage. Let's do it.
Tristan and Jasper join hands and a rainbow laserlight
show starts up.
TRISTAN AND JASPER (CONT'D)
Spell: Reveal a path of freedom for the innocent, so that no
one here will feel the wrath from those who are hell bent.
TRISTAN (CONT'D)
(yells out)
Alright everyone please follow this path to safety. NOW!
Innocents exit stage right. Tristan puts the book away
in his messenger bag. From backstage, The Dark Forces
are gradually calling to Jasper and Tristan to go
stage left.
THE DARK FORCES
(very faintly, almost
inaudible, soft)
From the depths of hell, we now summon the Rainbow Connection
with this spell. It does not matter if they are far or near,
succumb to us and settle here.
TRISTAN
Jasper we have to go. This is the only way we can escape from
them. Jasper?
JASPER
Do you hear that?
TRISTAN
H-Hear what? Seriously we've gotta go.
JASPER
It's like--it sounds like someone's calling for me.
TRISTAN
Okay you're seriously freaking me out. Our only path to
freedom is closing up on us.

THE DARK FORCES

(gradually gets louder)
From the depths of hell, we summon the Rainbow Connection
with this spell. It does not matter if they are far or near,
succumb to us and settle here.
TRISTAN
Okay. Now I'm hearing things. What's happening?
Red lights are flashing and red smoke appears from
stage left.
TRISTAN (CONT'D)
(scared to look back)
What is that behind us Jasper?
JASPER
(slowly turns around, catches
a glimpse of the Dark Forces)
Um. I think we're in trouble.
TRISTAN
Damnit! This is just great. Just when we thought we could be
free from these fu-
THE DARK FORCES
(LOUD)
From the depths of hell, we summon the Rainbow Connection
with this spell. It does not matter if they are far or near,
succumb to us and settle here.
Jasper and Tristan are then harnessed by stage crew
and are pulled in off stage left.
The stage goes red. Screams of terror are played
throughout the theatre. The stage is now the
Underworld.
END OF SCENE 1

ACT 1, SCENE 2: THE MIST OF THE UNDERWORLD

INT - THE UNDERWORLD, NIGHT, THE MAGICAL REALM

A smoke machine turns on and fills the stage with a
heavy misty red fog. Tristan is now downstage left and
Jasper is now downstage right.
TRISTAN
Ugh! Ouch! Great just great. Are you okay, Jasper? (beat)
Jasper? Jasper, where are you?

JASPER
(beat) I'm right over here!
TRISTAN
I can't see you!

JASPER
What's up with the fog?
The Dark Forces take center stage by running past both
Jasper and Tristan tripping them over in the process.
TRISTAN
(thuds)
Ow! What the hell was that?!
JASPER
I don't know.
(beat)
It was so fast. I couldn't make out what it was.
THE DARK FORCES
(angry)
You stupid witches think you can just take things without
asking, huh?
(beat)
Where is the book?!
TRISTAN
What book?
(beat)
Oh! you mean The Book of Lights. Sorry must've dropped it
somewhere up there.
THE DARK FORCES
Don't play smart with us, you foolish brat!
TRISTAN
Who are you calling a foolish brat? You're the ones that
stole my book.
THE DARK FORCES
Actually you dropped it and then we took it.
TRISTAN
Then I summoned it back and dropped it up there.
JASPER
(coughs)
Seriously! What is up with this fog? I feel like it's eating
up my insides.
(coughs)

THE DARK FORCES

(diabolically, maniacally
speaking)
The red fog is strengthening by the second. It'll sever your
connection to the book, to Jasper and your life.
TRISTAN
(coughs)
(in disgust) ugh, What is that smell?
(coughs)
THE DARK FORCES
Well that's the smell of our bloodshed in the air, especially
of those who we lost because of you, your boyfriend and your
fucking ancestors.
TRISTAN
(coughs) (yells)
It's not our fault that you send your own kind after us.
JASPER
(coughs) (yells)
Yeah if you weren't all so power hungry, we could have spared
you all of that pain.
(thuds)
Jasper and Tristan fall to the ground. The book falls
out of his messenger bag.
TRISTAN
Shit.
JASPER
Fuck.
THE DARK FORCES
Well would you look at that? Two fags on the ground
submitting to the Devil and is that the book I see?
(grabs the book in amazement)
Aww thank you and have fun down here for all of eternity!
While we go wreak havoc on all of humanity up there!
(laughs maniacally)
The Dark Forces exit stage right. Tristan and Jasper
desperately crawl over to each other as the fog
dissipates.
JASPER
Oh no! They took it.
TRISTAN
It's over we're done with.

JASPER
No we aren't Tris. We have to find a way to get it back from
them somehow.
TRISTAN
Y'know I'm tired of these homophobic demons coming after us
Jasp. The only way for us to get out of here and save
everyone up there is to come together and use the Ultimate
Rainbow Connection.
JASPER
You mean... An End All, Be All spell? Are you crazy? That'll
wipe us all out.
TRISTAN
It's the only way I know how we can be set free from all of
this madness.
JASPER
There has to be another way Tris.
TRISTAN
I'm afraid there isn't bubby.
(starts to cry)
JASPER
(starts to cry)
Y'know we got this far and there is no turning back if we do
this spell Tris.
TRISTAN
I know there is no turning back from this. We have to do this
for our friends, our families, and every other person up
there that are just like us.
JASPER
Yeah. Who can argue with that. All of the fighting that we
endured together has prepared us for this moment. Just know
that I love you very much and I won't let you go down this
ship alone.
TRISTAN
I love you too Jasper.
(beat)
Thank you.
JASPER
Alright, let's show these fucking demons whose boss!
TRISTAN
Fuck yeah!
(yells into the ether)
Hey you Red Faced Losers! Get your ugly asses down here right
now! It's time to end this once and for ALL!

JASPER
YEAH WHAT HE SAID!
The Dark Forces are harnessed and brought down from
the overpass.
THE DARK FORCES
What the fuck do you guys want? We were in middle of a
discussion on how to destroy the world with Donald Trump.
TRISTAN
First of all, we want whats rightfully ours back. And second
of all, ew.
JASPER
You homophobic dirtballs need to learn a valuable lesson and
that is not to fuck with the Rainbow Connection.
Tristan kicks the book out of the Dark Forces' hands
and lands onto Jasper's hands.
THE DARK FORCES
(furious)
You're going to wish you hadn't done that!!!
JASPER
Tristan, catch.
TRISTAN
Caught it.
The Dark Forces storm after Jasper but misses and
tumbles over.
THE DARK FORCES
Stop fucking around!
TRISTAN
Aww are you guys pressed?
JASPER
Yeah I believe they are.
THE DARK FORCES
We've fucking had it with you faggots! Give us the goddamn
book!!!
TRISTAN AND JASPER
(yells out)
Keep dreaming!
The Dark Forces throw fire (glowing orange) balls at
Tristan and Jasper but they both deflect the attack.
 9.

A rainbow laserlight show begins, the wind machine

turns on and gradually gets stronger.
TRISTAN AND JASPER (CONT'D)
Spell: We call upon the ancient powers from the Book of
Lights to guide us through this endless night. With these
powers, the Rainbow Connection grows stronger. The power of
our love grows fonder. You shall suffer the pain of a million
witches that were killed by the demons that came before you.
We call upon these witches to stand by us. They shall have
the future they longed for and wished. From the witches of
yesteryear to the witches of the future, we now pronounced
you vanquished!
THE DARK FORCES
(in agony, screaming)
No! You're gonna pay for this! No!
(dead)
A loud boom and a puff of red smoke appears as The
Dark Forces are lifted down into the pit. Tristan and
Jasper fall back as a result of the spell.
TRISTAN
(wakes up)
Whoa. That was one hell of spell. Right, babe?
JASPER
Yeah. It was. Now can we get out of this hellhole.
TRISTAN
Yes. Let's go home.
Tristan and Jasper limp as they exit off stage left.
The stage goes dark.
