Yes, I used to save money to buy something I really wanted. That's my idol's music album.
This is quite expensive for me, about 300-400 thousand VND per book. so I patiently saved
for a long time to buy it.

PART 2:
Describe something you have bought recently
You should say:
 what it was
 where you bought it
 whether it was good value
 and explain why you bought it.
I bought an laptop form the Apple brand, also known as a Macbook last month. I used the
money my father gave me to buy it at an electronics store called cellphones near my house. My
dad chose the pink one for me and I also like it very much It costs about 30 million VND,
including a full set of utilities and accessories. I think this is a good price because it matches the
quality this laptop brings. The reason I bought this laptop was to replace the old laptop that my
parents bought for me in 2nd grade. Because it could not meet my needs when I went to college.
I think it will help me in preparing presentations, reports, essays or other research in the
program.

PART 3:
1. In your country, how do people express wealth and affluence?
Some may buy expensive cars, houses, jewelry or clothes to collect. Others may choose to
travel to exotic locations or engage in expensive hobbies. Additionally, some people may
choose to donate to charitable causes and display their wealth to the public.
2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of consumerism?
Consumerism stimulates economic growth. It creates a never-ending cycle of
buying and selling which allows the economy to grow. Increased production levels lead
to more jobs. Additional employment leads to better wages in local communities. Higher
wages lead to more spending.
The negative effects of consumerism include the depletion of natural resources
and pollution of the Earth. The way the consumer society is working is not sustainable.
We are currently overusing Earth's natural resources with more than 70 percent.

3. Is society now more materialistic than it used to be in previous generations?

We all live in a materialistic society where the majority of people is more concerned with
what it has than who we are. There is too much emphasis today on the brand of clothes
you are wearing, what car you are driving and what you have in general. Some people
look at others that live in luxury and think that they are living a happier life than theirs.
This is the impression that society embeds in our heads that leads to many of us spending
their lives chasing money rather than happiness.
4. How has technology affected patterns of purchasing behaviour?
Consumers are more connected to business than ever before. Using smartphones, they
can research products, ask sales questions, and purchase products no matter where they
are and what they are doing. Technology has enabled consumers to have as many options
as imagined. With an extensive array of choices, consumers are quick to look at the
competitor brand when their experience isn’t going great.
