Exercise – Using the First Conditional to Negotiate Business Transactions

What will you say to get a lower price or better payment terms when given an offer like the ones
below? Use the first conditional to negotiate the terms you want.

1. We can offer you this new Honda Astina for 20,000 dollars. It comes with free auto insurance

for one year and free registration at the Land Transportation Office. We will include a free tool

box and a Honda jacket.

2. I have a proposal for you. You can avail of our hotel conference room for free for one day if you

order at least 2,000 dollars worth of food and drinks from any of our hotel restaurants. You can

also use our computers and projectors. We will even give you a 10% discount on standard hotel

rooms.

3. You may want to consider this apartment. It is located very near the main highway and the

subway station. It has one living room, one dining area, a kitchen, one bedroom and a toilet and

bath. The rent per month is 500 dollars and you need to give me one month rent, one month

deposit and 11 post-dated checks. You can move-in in twenty days after you have given me the

checks and signed a contract.
