Tropical Cyclones

5. Because it's located in the west pacific ocean which is the most active
basin in the world. Most of the typhoons forms over Mariana Trench and their
directions are westward, this makes the Philippines to be prone to tropical
cyclones.

Tropical cyclones are strong storms that form over tropical and subtropical
waters. This storm moves counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. If
in the southern hemisphere, this storm moves clockwise.

Tropical cyclones are divided into 4 types:


Tropical depression, which is the weakest type of tropical cyclone. You
see, the maximum wind speed in this cyclone is around 33 knots, or
between 37 to 63 km/hour.
Tropical storms have maximum wind speeds between 34 to 63 knots or
64-118 km/hour.
Hurricane whose wind speed can reach more than 64 knots or 118
km/hour. This hurricane designation only applies when a cyclone forms
in the Atlantic Ocean. If it forms in the North Pacific, we call it a
typhoon or typhoon. So, if it forms in the Indian Ocean, then it's called a
cyclone or cyclone.
The biggest major hurricane or cyclone. A cyclone can only be called a
major hurricane if the wind speed reaches 96 knots (180 km/hour) or
even more than that.
