It shouldd be consideered at the design

d stagee where valvves will be lo
ocated to givve access fo
or
operatioon, adjustm ment, mainte enance and repair.
Gate valves may be e installed in
n:
a) Horizontal pipewo ork with stemm vertical.
b) Verticcal pipeworkk with stem horizontal
h
In the in
nterests of sa
afety, valv ves installed d on end-of-line service in the closedd position with
w
infrequeent opening should
s be fittted with a lo
ocking devic
ce on the op perating mecchanism.
Alternatively,it sho ould be fitted
d plug with a thread on thet outlet of the valve.

 OP
PERATING
G

The valvve is opened d by anti-cloc

ckwise rotattion of the poost indicatorr to a positive
ve stop. Furth
her effort
is not neecessary. When
W fully open it is adva
antageous to o rotate the post
p indicatoor clockwise 1/2 turn.
To close e the valve, the post inddicator is ro tated clockw
wise to a pos sitive stop. WWheelkeys oro other
similar ddevices shou uld not be ussed.
Note:
When th he valve is closed at extreme high te emperature and then co ooled, the wedge may y become
tight in tthe valve and prove difficult to openn.
Converssely, a valve closed att room temp perature can n be difficult to open if thhere is an inc
crease in
fluid tem
mperature ca ausing a lineear expansio on of the steem, which tightens thee wedge further into
the bodyy seats.
The valvve should only
o be used in the op en or close ed position. Regulating or throttling g service
should b be avoided.

TION

(1) The installer must be trainedd or experie nced so as to operate th he installatioon correctly.
orough checck after insta
(2) A tho allation is ne eded to enssure no errorrs.
(3) A thhorough clea aning beforee installationn is needed d (chemical reagent caan be applie ed if it is
neceessary) to ennsure that th
here is no ruusting or dirt in the pipe.
(4) This product sh hould not bee used when n the fluid medium
m s high viscoosity (contains much
has
grease or minera al oil).
(5) Use threaded co onnector thaat meets the standard to o connect the e valve.
(6) A full risk assesssment and methodology
m y statement must be com mpiled prior to any maintenance.

(7) In syystems wherre corrosion could be a potential ha azard, wall thickness cchecks on th he body
and bon nnet should be b made. Th his requires either the re emoval of thhe valve fromm the pipelin
ne or
removall of the bonn net with the system
s at zeero pressure e.
(8) Priorr to installation, a chec ck of the ide
entification plate
p and body marking must be ma ade to
ensure tthat the corrrect valve is being installled.
(9) Valve es are precision manufa actured item ms and as su uch, should not be subbjected to misuse
m
such as careless ha andling, allo owing dirt to enter the va h the end porrts, lack of cleaning
alve through
both valve and system before operation
o annd excessive e force during bolting annd handle op peration.
All speccial packagin ng material must
m be remmoved.
(10) Imm mediately prrior to valve installation, the pipew work to which the valve iis to be fasteened
should b be checked for cleanline ess and free edom from debris.
(11) Vallve end prottectors shou uld only be permanentlly removed immediatelyy before ins stallation.
The valvve interior should be ins spected thro ough the end etermine whhether it is clean and
d ports to de
free from m foreign matter.
m If a condition iss found which might cause c leakaage, no atttempt to
assemble should be e made until the conditio on has been n corrected.
(12) Carre should be e taken to prrovide correcct alignmentt of the flangges being asssembled.
At the co onclusion off installation and before operating, all dust dep posits shall bbe removed from the
equipme ent.
