Dear Parents

The King’s School produces reports for Years 7-12 that reflect the reporting of student performance against standards.
Assessment Tasks and formative assessment undertaken during the reporting period have been designed and linked to
syllabus outcomes for each subject and students have been given the opportunity to demonstrate their achievement of
these outcomes in a range of task types.

To assist you in understanding your son’s Academic Report, the following features should be noted:

· The Course Description is written by the appropriate Head of Department, is content-based specific to the reporting
period and may incorporate outcomes from the syllabus.
· Performance Outcomes are written by Heads of Department based on Assessment Tasks completed during the
reporting period, are topic specific and are ‘in plain English’. Each outcome is reported in one (1) of the following
levels: Excellent, High, Substantial, Satisfactory, Elementary, Not evidenced.
· The Responsible Learning Profile has four areas, and each is reported in one (1) of the following levels: Well above
expectation, Above expectation, Meets expectation, Below expectation, Well below expectation. These areas
break down the different components of a student’s profile to give a comprehensive overview. While
acknowledging that the levels are subjective, every care has been taken to ensure consistency across Departments.
· For Years 7-11, the Cumulative Assessment Mark, Mean, Place in Course and Grade (A-E) are included. The grades
are explained on one of the pages within the report and are based on NSW Education Standards Authority grade
descriptors.
· Year 12 reports have information based on assessment tasks completed thus far along with the Place in Course.
· The General Comment reflects the Performance Outcomes and allows teachers the opportunity to discuss other
issues, eg. class work, exam marks, formative information, not reflected in the Performance Outcomes. If Not
evidenced has been used in any Performance Outcome, an explanation is included here.
· The Recommendation is not predictive of future performance but identifies trends and suggests ways to improve
levels of performance.
· The Housemaster and Mentor Report reflects a general view of student performance drawn from the educational
goals described in the Mission Statement and encompasses Academic Excellence, Christian Community, and
Character Development dimensions of each student, in the House and at school. The comment reflects the overall
academic, pastoral and co-curricular involvement of your son during the reporting period.
· For Years 7-10, the GPA (Grade Point Average) is a measure of a student’s relative performance in English,
Mathematics, Science, Geography and History as a number in the range 1-10. A student’s overall performance
may be compared from one semester to another against his own previous performance.

A more detailed explanation of the GPA Calculation, Grades and Performance Outcomes can be found on KingsNet by selecting
the ‘How to Access and Interpret Academic Reports’ accordion from the 'Overview' tab.
Providing meaningful feedback to parents is an integral part of any assessment and reporting of student performance.
In conjunction with Parent Teacher evenings, information evenings, Careers night and other contact with staff, reports
provide vital information for you to monitor your son’s progress, achievements and performance in a way that is clear
and accurate. If you have any questions about these reports and the information provided, please do not hesitate to
contact your son’s teacher, mentor or appropriate Head of Department.

Comment
Yusef is a well organised and self-motivated student who is continually striving to achieve his best. As a Mentor group, we
focused on discussing and developing wellbeing strategies and skills to assist Yusef to cope with the stresses that often
come with his busy academic and co-curricular schedule. We also discussed some positive habits to regularly practise to
ensure the boys are taking care of themselves. Yusef always approaches these conversations with sensibility and aims to
remain cognisant of these stresses as he moves through the Senior School. Yusef is highly engaged in all his subjects and
displays an inquisitive and mature approach to his education. Yusef continues to be a part of The King's School community,
participating in Business and Investments Club, Computer Programming Club, Robotics Club and Science Club. He is
encouraged to engage more in leadership opportunities that arise to broaden his experiences and relationships. This semester,
Yusef has achieved excellent results. Yusef has openly discussed his aim to strive for the highest possible level, as a personal
pursuit and we commend him on his consistent high ranks in most of his subject areas. Teachers have noted he is continually
focused and engaged in class and is organised when completing home learning tasks and assessments. We look forward to
supporting Yusef in both his academic and co-curricular commitments throughout this year's second semester and hope that
he seeks advice across any aspect of his schooling, should he need it.

General Comment
Yusef is to be commended for his results in English. He is an independent thinker who has a highly developed ability to deconstruct
complex texts and consequently his contributions to class discussions are always insightful. Yusef's results in the comprehension task
indicates he has a sophisticated ability to analyse a variety of text types, but consistent practise is required for continued progress. He
delivered an engaging multimodal presentation that reflected a perceptive understanding of rhetorical devices and media literacy. Yusef
is a pleasure to teach.
Recommendation

Yusef is encouraged to maintain his work ethic as he transitions into Semester 2. Over the term break, Yusef should prioritise refining
the various components of his Director's Portfolio and undertake independent research regarding intricate contextual elements that
would add flair and sophistication to his ideas. He should also begin to familiarise himself with the free verse novel 'Out of the Dust'
by Karen Hesse as preparation for the subsequent unit of study. Reading widely for enjoyment and challenge would also develop Yusef's
understanding of the finer subtleties of the English language and improve the clarity of his expression.

Yusef is a diligent and hardworking young mathematician who always strives to do his best in every aspect. This attitude to his learning
is encouraging to see and he should be commended on this. His examination results were consistently pleasing but he should take extra
care during examinations to not leave questions out or make careless errors. Yusef needs to continue practising his algebra skills and
developing procedural fluency to have a strong foundation for the topics to come. It has been a pleasure teaching Yusef this semester.

Recommendation

The content and skills covered this year serve as a core foundation for increasingly abstract and complex ideas in further studies. It is
important that Yusef utilises this year to develop familiarity and fluency with a variety of areas, with specific focus on Algebra,

General Comment
During this semester, we have focused on life in Medieval History and the Viking Society.Yusef is a conscientious and enthusiastic
student who has made a positive start to his study of History this year. However, it must be noted that at the time of reporting, only
one formal assessment task has been recorded, a knowledge based source analysis task on life in Medieval times. As such, the report
result indicated reflects this. On this task, Yusef received full marks. This exceptional result reflects Yusef's strong work ethic and a
dedication to ensure that he is comprehensive and detailed in his responses. It has been a pleasure teaching him in Semester One.
Recommendation

Regardless of rank, I recommend all students to focus on the key skills that we have covered so far this year being source skills, using
PEEL paragraphs and supporting essay writing with historical evidence. Yusef would also benefit from practicing as many extended
response style questions ensuring that he addresses the question in sufficient detail and support his argument with specific historical
detail. This will assist Yusef to further develop his exam technique and the strength of his writing. These practices will undoubtedly
contribute to Yusef's growth and success in History.
