CARE OF PEDIATRIC

CLIENTS WITH
CELLULAR ABERRATION
PREPARED BY:
MARIA FE L. TABUJARA, RN. MAN
• New cases and deaths: An estimated 11,050 new cancer cases will be
diagnosed among children ages 0 to 14 years in the US in 2020, and an
estimated 1,190 children will die of the disease.
• Second-leading cause of death among children ages 1-14 years after
accidents.

Cancer Facts and Figures 2020

• In high-income countries, where comprehensive services are generally
accessible, more than 80% of children with cancer are cured. In low- and
middle-income countries (LMICs), an estimated 15-45% are cured.
• Avoidable deaths from childhood cancers in LMICs result from lack of
diagnosis, misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis, obstacles to accessing care,
abandonment of treatment, death from toxicity, and higher rates of
relapse.

I. BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF A NORMAL CELLS

Predictable Cell Life Cycle

• Go Phase – Resting Phase
• G1 Phase – RNA and Protein
Synthesis
• S Phase – DNA Synthesis
• G2 Phase –
• M Phase – Mitosis
CELL CYCLE
• Differentiation – The process
of development where cells
become more specialized or
committed to a more
particular cell line as they
mature.
• Contact Inhibition – The restraint in cell
growth and division which normally follows
contact between tissue cells.

• Growth Rate is equal to death rate
• Specialized functions in the body
