the circumference of the circle is 96 cm.

11. Water dripping from a ceiling makes a circular stain on a carpet. The area of the stain increases at the
rate of 0.5 cm2/s. Find the rate of change of the radius of the circle, in cm/s, to 2 significant figures, when the
area is 20 cm2.

12. Oil is dripping from a pipe at a constant rate and forms a circular pool. The area of the pool is increasing
at 15 cm2/s. Find, to 3 significant figures, the rate of increase of the radius of the pool when the area is 50 cm2.

13. Oil is leaking from a hole in a pipe. The oil forms a circular pool of radius 𝑟 cm. The area 𝐴 cm2, of the
surface of the pool is increasing at a constant rate of 0.3 cm2/s. Find, to 3 significant figures, the rate of
increase of the radius of the pool when the area is 40 cm2.

14. A sphere is being inflated. Its radius is increasing at the constant rate of 0.1 m/s. Find, to 3 significant
figures, the rate of increase of the volume of the sphere at the instant when the radius is 1.2 m.

15. The volume of a sphere is increasing at a rate of 15 cm3/s. Find the rate of increase of the radius of the
sphere when its surface area is 45 cm2

16. A spherical balloon is being inflated so that its volume is increasing at a rate of 0.2 m3/s. Find the rate of
increase of the surface area of the balloon when its radius is 0.3 m.

17. The radius of sphere is 𝑟 cm. Given that the surface area of the sphere is increasing at a rate of 4 cm2/s.
Calculate the rate, in cm3/s, at which the volume of the sphere is increasing when 𝑟 = 3.

18. Each edge of a metal cube is expanding at a constant rate of 2.3×10-4 cm/s. Find the rate of increase of
the volume of the cube, in cm3/s, when each edge of the cube is 3 cm.

19. The length of each of the edges of a cube is increasing at the same rate. Given that the total surface area
is increasing at the rate of 7.2×10-3 m2/s when the length of each edge is 1.2 m. Find the rate of increase of
the length of each edge of the cube at this instant.

20. The edges of a cube are of length 𝑥 cm. Given that the volume of the cube is being increased at a rate of
𝑝 cm3/s, where 𝑝 is a constant. Calculate, in terms of 𝑝, in cm2/s, the rate at which the surface area of the
cube is increasing when 𝑥 = 5.

21. The radius of the base of circular cone is 𝑟 cm and the vertical height of the cone is 2𝑟 cm. Given that the
radius of the base is increasing at a rate of 5 cm/s. Find the rate, in cm3/s, to 3 significant figures, at which
the volume of the cone is increasing when 𝑟 = 6.

22. Sand is poured at a steady rate of 0.6 m3/s to form a pile. The pile is in the shape of a right circular cone
for which the height is always twice the radius of the base. Calculate, in m/s, to 2 significant figures, the rate
at which the height of the pile is increasing when its height is 1.8 m.

23. The volume of a right circular cone is increasing at the rate of 45 cm3/s. The height of the cone is always
three times the radius of the base of the cone. Find the rate of increase of the radius of the base, in cm/s, to
3 significant figures, when the radius of the cone is 4 cm.

24. The volume of a right circular cone is increasing at a constant rate of 12 cm3/s. The radius of the base of
the cone is always half the height of the cone. Find, in cm/s, the exact value of the rate of increase of the
