Nowadays, almost everyone has a streaming platform at home such as Netflix or HBO.

These
platforms offer a wide range of series and movies in so many different languages. Therefore,
the viewers can choose whether they watch it with the original voice and subtitles or they
prefer to watch them dubbed.

On the one hand, subtitling seems the easiest choice for the producers and the platforms;
however this is not completely true because they risk themselves to lose the viewers’
attention. Furthermore, it is quiet common that children are not able to read the full subtitles
at the movies or series' rhythm, so they feel lost and stop watching the movie or series. On the
other hand, dubbing is also a risky option due to you can lose the authenticity of the actor
performance and chance the scene meaning unintentionally.

A part from that, dubbing can be excellent for those who are slow readers. It is hard to watch a
long movie reading all the time without losing any important detail. Nevertheless, dubbing
allows everyone to be just focused on following the plot and not being tired of reading it. Plus,
it increases the viewers' engagement.

To sum up, I would say that both choices are fine depending on the viewer. For me it is much
better to watch movies or series in the original language because, most of them are in English
and I enjoy learning new words or expressions. Even so, I completely understand those who
just want to spend a good time with their families and avoid thinking too much.
