1 Are you familiar with RBKC’s Health and Safety policy?

2 Are the premises you work in suitable for the activity you undertake (enough
space for the number of learners, type of activity)?

3 Do you have a current generic premises risk assessment? (where you are
working at premises other than your main one, you may need to ask the centre
manager)

4 Do you have risk assessment for specific activity on your lesson plan?

5 Do you have sufficient space available for the task? (if no you should redesign
the task to suit the space)

6 Are the premises provided with adequate means for temperature control?

7 Are the premises provided with adequate means for ventilation?

8 Do you and your learners have access to drinking water?

9 Is the equipment and furniture in good condition and free from defects likely to
cause injury? (is it appropriate to the learners – for example in family learning
sessions delivered in schools do you have access to adult-sized furniture?)

10 Have you recorded all learners including late comers in case of emergency
evacuation?

11 Have you shared with your learners any potential risk for the specific activity?
(including mitigation action needed)

12 Are the fire exits clearly marked and do the fire doors open?

13 Have you made contingency plans in case of fire or other incident?

14 Can you identify who the First Aider is for the particular premises?

15 Do you know where to access the First Aid box?

16 Do you know where and who to report an accident/incident on the premises?

17 Have you got access to a phone in case of an emergency?

18 Do you know the emergency evacuation routes closest to your classroom?

19 Do you know where to muster in the event of an emergency evacuation?

If you have answered No to any of these questions, please discuss with your line
manager immediately

Complete this induction checklist with your learners in the first session or first couple of
sessions. Once completed keep a copy in the course file and hand a copy to your team leader.
Remember if a learner starts late you will need to go over the information with them as well.
