1. What is a marine ecosystem?

A marine ecosystem is a system in which marine organisms interact with each other and with the
environment.

2. What is a marine food chain?

All marine life are linked by the food they feed on. The feeding relationships among them are
known as a food chain.

3. Why does the amount of energy decrease up the food chain?

Energy is lost at each trophic level, mainly as heat in the respiration of organisms and in the
waste they produce.

4. How do the oceans regulate temperature?

First, Water has a higher heat capacity than land. It heats up and cools down slower and brings a
mild climate to coastal area,
where can enjoy a cooler summer and warmer winter than inland areas.

Second, the ocean currents that driven by global wind systems also influence the temperature. W
arm currents increase the
temperature of coastal areas they flow by while cold currents lower the temperature of coastalo
areas they flow by.
