Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Poster Visual Analysis Essay 2 Final Draft

In October 2023 the movie Five nights at Freddy’s is being released. This movie is being

promoted the traditional way with a movie poster which can be found outside of many cinemas

with 5 different animal animatronics walking towards something, but lined up in a staggered line.

With a light billboard sign behind them advertising a building that goes by Five Nights at

Freddys. The movie poster is trying to attract audiences to buy tickets for this movie by using

these 4 different conventions which catch the attention of horror movie watchers, but specifically

fans of the video game franchise Five Nights at Freddys. The 4 different conventions would be

the building, the 5 different animal animatronics, the background, and their demonic red eyes.

Something evident you can notice about the big billboard with the words Five Night at

Freddy’s is that it appears to be rusted and many of the light bulbs are blown out. Which illudes

the idea that the building is abandoned. Other features which allude to the idea that the building

is abandoned is the overgrown grass, the dead bushes and the dead vines coming down around

the door. The building has this pattern which is black and white checkered. The black and white

checkered gives off the nice and charming feel, but also gives off the feeling that this is a

restaurant. Another evidence to back up this idea that this is a restaurant is that the chicken

animatronic has a bib on which says Let's Eat. With the abandoned building feature it gives off a

spooky vibe to the restaurant, which makes the audience want to know more about why it is

abandoned.

The 5 characters are shown front and center of the movie poster, with beading red eyes,

and a sorta rustic look. The 5 characters resemble different animals except one. The characters

resemble a fox, a bear, a chicken, and a hippo, the other character is a cupcake. The characters

are in a staggered line which shows they are sorta like a performing act, evidence to back this up

is the hippo is holding a guitar. The bear is shown to be more front and center than the other

characters, which shows he's the main character. More evidence is that on the billboard it shows

his face on it and not any other characters are displayed with him. These characters are also a

part of the very popular video game franchise known as Five Nights at Freddys. Where they are

placed on the movie poster makes it to where it's one of the first conventions of the poster you

notice. So fans of the video game franchise would immediately be drawn to the wanna watch the

movie and buy tickets for it.

The colors in this poster are extraordinarily dark and spooky, giving off the feelings of

rustic and horror. This movie poster uses the colors green, gray, brown, red, orange, and yellow.

This scheme of colors can add and contribute to the feelings of scary and horror movie colors.

This color scheme of dark color palette attracts viewers' attention and can generate a response of

horror and spookiness to watchers which may attract horror movie enthusiasts to give the movie

a try. The poster also uses the weather as a convention to give off the eerie feeling to the spector.

The weather used in this poster is dark and cloudy with rain. In front of the characters there is a

puddle with the reflection of the characters

As one of the first things an audience would see by seeing the movie poster is that the

animatronics are possessed in a demonic way. The reason this is assumed is because of the

features in the characters eyes, the eyes are lit up and red. It could be presumed that they are

killer animatronics as how one of the characters has a hand as a hook, and the looks they are

given give off the uncanny feeling as in how they are given human features but are given the

body of an animal. With the red eyes it conveys to attracting horror movies enthusiasts because

why are there eyes red, who or what demonic creature is controlling them. It also has the words

“Can you survive” which backs up the statement that either they are killing animatronics or

something is going on inside that building. That conveys the point of horror because killing

demonic animatronics is horror and piques the interest on why they are murdering.

To wrap it all up, the 4 conventions which are used to catch the attention of horror movie

lovers and fans of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. This poster does a great job of piquing

the curiosity of others with the freakishly weird choice of characters, such as cupcake bear, a

chicken, and a hippo. Not only does the poster do its job as an advertisement, but it also

combines the essence of eary presence with unexpected twists such as death from such

unexpected characters. This movie poster uses the conventions of the building, the 5 different

animal animatronics, the background, and their demonic red eyes to catch the attention of a

spectator to buy tickets for the upcoming movie Five Nights at Freddys.
