Chapter 3: METHODOLOGY

1.Research Design

This research will describe the accumulated information using a descriptive research design wehere
they will interpret the gathered data from the randomly selected respondents. It is a type of research
design that uses a narrative explanation to interpret the data that will be acquired during the course
of the study.

On the other hand, the researchers will use a quantitative research that is consist of closed-ended
questions whereas, the respondents will comply to the question by choosing the answers from the
survey form.

Quantitative research design was used to collect and gather information about utilizing social media
plaforms during this pandemic among Grade 12 HUMSS students of SMIS Main for the school year 2022-
2023.

It will describe and test the relationships between objects.it was presented in numerical form, and
analyzed through the use of statistics. It focused on the gatering numerical data and generalizing it
across groups of people or to explain a particular phenomenon.

2.Sampling Procedure and Sample

The target respondents of the researchers are the selected Grade 12 HUMMS students of SMIS. The
respondents will be selected randomly but each of them must provide answers from the given
questionnaire of the researchers.

The survey will be limited to 270 respondents which composed of the majority population of selected
respondents from the different sections of the Grade 12 HUMMS students.

The researchers will illustrate the number of the respondents with a percentage as follows:

TABLE 1

RESPONDENTS

GENDER MAJORITY POPULATION OF HUMSS PERCENTAGE

STUDENTS

Male 130 48.15%

Female 140 51.85%

Total 270 100%

The study was conducted on the majority population of the randomly selected Grade 12 HUMSS
students who were enrolled in the school year 2021-2022 which is equivalent to two hundred and
seventy (270) respondents.

3. Data Gathering Methods

The survey questionnaire is the main instrument that will be used in the data gathering process through
the use of Google Forms. The pandemic restricted the common face to face interview to the
respondents to avoid the virus. Through the utilization of Google form as a tool in collecting data, the
researchers have a better way of conducting the survey inspite of constraints.

The questionnaires will be composed of two parts; Part 1 will contain the demographic profile of the
respondents which includes their name,age,gender, section and most importantly the type of social
media platform they use to study.

While Part 2 will finally contain the prepared questions and answers where the respondents will be
asked to choose their preffered response from the likert scale based on their personal experience and
perception along the given area.

The researchers will secure a permission to Mrs.Joan Rischelle C. Estrada the thesis adviser and to
Mr.Primitivo R. Gorospe Secondary School Principal III CCNHS-Main and finally to the respondents. After
which, they will be conducting the survey through online to the randomly selected respondents. The
result will be tallied,scored, and tabulated.

4. Data GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researchers made a letter for the approval to conduct the study. The study was then started from
November 2021 until January 2022. The respondents of the study are the ramdomly selected Grade 12
HUMSS students. Each students was given a same set of questionnaire through online as a tool in
determining the impact of social media as a learning tool in enhancing their learning performance during
Covid-19 pandemic as perceived by the Grade 12 HUMSS students of San Miguel Integrated School for
the school year 2022-2023.

After collecting all the data, the researchers,with the help of the trusted consultants. The result would
hopefully be the basis for enhancing the learning performance of the students amidst the pandemic by
utilizing social media as their learning tool.

5. PLANS FOR DATA ANALYSIS

The frequency count of social media platform used by the Grade 12 HUMSS respondents and the social
media as a learning tool in enhancing their learning performance during Covid-19 pandemic were
determined using the Weighted Average Mean method (WAM). In interpreting the computer WAM
point obtained,the formula is as follows;

FORMULA : P = F/NX100

P = Percentage

F = Frequency Distribution

N = Number of cases/Respondents

100 = Constant

For the Total Weighted Frequency of Social media as a learning tool in enhancing the learning
performance of the Grade 12 HUMSS students perceived this time of pandemic, this was the scale;

POINT RANGE DESCRIPTION

5 4.51-5.00 STRONGLY AGREE

4 3.51-4.50 AGREE

3 2.51-3.50 NEUTRAL

2 1.51-2.50 DISAGREE

1 1.00-1.50 STRONGLY DISAGREE
