II. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The rise of electronic commerce has exerted a substantial influence on the retail industry,
both on a worldwide scale and within the context of the Philippines. E-commerce sales in
the Philippines experienced a notable growth rate of 56% in the year 2021, resulting in a
total sales value of $17.4 billion. The expansion has been propelled by various variables,
such as the escalating accessibility of high-speed internet, the surging prevalence of mobile
devices, and the convenience associated with online purchasing.

The implementation of electronic commerce has yielded both positive and negative
consequences for traditional retail enterprises. E-commerce provides new opportunities for
enterprises to expand their market reach and engage in online sales. Conversely, the advent
of e-commerce has resulted in the disruption of traditional retail enterprises, as consumers
progressively exhibit a preference for online shopping.

The municipality of Diffun, located in the province of Quirino, is characterized by its

modest size and is home to a population estimated at approximately 50,000 individuals.
The municipality is home to several conventional retail establishments, encompassing
grocery stores, apparel retailers, and appliance vendors. These enterprises are encountering
escalating competition from online retailers in the e-commerce industry.

Research Questions:

This research study will address the following research questions:

1. What is the level of adoption of e-commerce among consumers in Diffun, Quirino?

2. What are the factors that influence consumers' decision to shop online?
3. How has the adoption of e-commerce impacted traditional retail enterprises in Diffun,
Quirino?
4. What strategies can traditional retail enterprises adopt to compete with e-commerce
retailers?
Research Design/Methodology

The present study will employ a quantitative research methodology. The data will be
obtained by conducting a survey targeting consumers residing in Diffun, Quirino. The poll
will inquire about the shopping behaviors of customers, their perspectives on electronic
commerce, and their evaluations of traditional retail enterprises.

Analysis:

The data obtained from the survey will be subjected to analysis employing statistical
methodologies. The findings derived from the analysis will be utilized to address the
research inquiries and formulate recommendations for conventional retail enterprises in
Diffun, Quirino.

Expected Findings:

The expected findings of this research study are as follows:

 The level of adoption of e-commerce among consumers in Diffun, Quirino is

relatively low.
 The factors that influence consumers' decision to shop online include convenience,
price, and selection.
 The adoption of e-commerce has had a negative impact on traditional retail
enterprises in Diffun, Quirino.
 Traditional retail enterprises can adopt a number of strategies to compete with e-
commerce retailers, such as offering better prices, improving customer service, and
expanding their product offerings.

Significance:

This research study aims to enhance the understanding of the effects of e-commerce on
traditional retail enterprises in the Philippines. The implications of the research will prove
valuable for traditional retail enterprises operating in Diffun, Quirino, as well as other rural
areas within the Philippines.

Limitations:

This research study has a number of limitations, including:

 The sample size is relatively small.

 The survey is self-reported, which may introduce bias.
 The findings of the study may not be generalizable to other towns in the
Philippines.

Conclusion:

The present research proposal provides a comprehensive overview of the research

inquiries, methodologies, data analysis techniques, anticipated outcomes, and significance
of a quantitative study into the effects of e-commerce adoption and disruption on
traditional retail enterprises within the municipality of Diffun, Quirino. This study will

enhance understanding of the mentioned significant matter and prove beneficial for
traditional retail enterprises in the Philippines.
