Hey Henry
Hey Henry, I am so thankful that the commissioners are putting in walking trails at Nash Farms and Panola Park. This is after they just bought an airport, laid off 57 county employees, did not fill 30 open county positions, gave out 72 early retirements to county employees, handed out 4 furlough days a year to existing county employees, and cut the library budget to the bare bones. Now there will be something free for us to do with our free time. Hey Henry, Atlanta HOT LANES! They will be coming this way sooner than later. Call Gov. Deal and let him know, we don't need Hot Lanes on I-75.

Let's Talk About Voter Apathy

By TheDoctor

Lets have a discussion on voter apathy. Voter apathy is where people who are registered to vote or are old enough to vote but are not registered will not go to the polls to vote during an election. This is considered a sickness within the mainstream of society where people complain, but they do nothing to change things. For example: many people complain about a high fever or cough but never see a physician for help. But they will complain about the condition.

Your Support is Appreciated

There are many reasons why people do not go out and vote. One is that they get tired of hearing so much negativity between candidates. Two, people get tired of useless promises and the person just goes into office to hurt the public good instead of making things easier for the citizens. Three, many people are just not interested in the rest of society; they are just wrapped up into their own worlds and dont care. Four, they see good people who might support one candidate and then hurt so many others who support someone else. But here is what people get when they do not vote. They often get a President who takes the country so deep into debt that generations will be paying the bills. They even get those who spend the taxpayers money for bridges to nowhere. They find out that the government doesnt want to do anything to make their lives easier, but to take more of their rights away. And if they dont get out and vote then they see their city facing a forensic audit. Heres the bottom line either stay home and dont vote or go out and vote to try and make a difference. Guess what its your government because the

people are the government. It has always amazed me that people here let a small handful of others choose those who will either raise taxes on your land or make it worthless. Somewhere along the way the people must step up to the plate and say yes or no. My dad always said you get what you pay for in life. Well, it also applies to elections. We get what we vote for or dont. How about surprising everyone this year and get out and vote in large numbers. With all the days that are open for voting in this day and time, there is no excuse not to vote. Remember voting is the one thing in your life that you can do where the government cannot control how you think or how you go about doing things. We are the people, lets get out and make a real differen ce all across the land.
Thank you for reading and may God Bless.

Support Henrys Educational SPLOST

My personal position is that our school system staff has always done an excellent job of planning and projecting costs. The BoE has never deviated from the published list of projects and intended uses for SPLOST revenues. Not only do we have fiscal accountability, the school system is well served by a consumption tax as opposed to property tax. The $1 billion or so in properties must be maintained. Allowing these facilities to fall into, or remain in disrepair is negligent. The one new school that is proposed is easily justified by counting trailers! You can see that I support E-SPLOST, while generally opposing the moving & shuffling of projects and funds as done by the Henry county commissioners. The Citizen said little, and efforts were made to remain neutral. It is too easy for Joe Voter to confuse a well-run, fiscally sound program with every other Evil Tax. Well, the vote is near. It is time to take a stand. Larry Stanley

LANCE LAMBERTON

Candidate for Austell City Council

As you may be aware, I am now a declared candidate and will be on the ballot for Austell City Council, Ward 4, with the election to be held on November 8th. Under the circumstances, to avoid any perceived conflict of interest, such as using my position as president of the Cobb Taxpayers Association (CTA) to advance my candidacy, I have asked Mr. Brett Bittner, who is CTA's Vice President, to take over the operations of CTA until the election, and to serve as our spokesman; a request to which he has graciously agreed. The good news is that as a candidate, there is no restriction on me speaking out against the T-SPLOST, which is CTA's primary concern. The difference is that I will speak out as "candidate" Lance Lamberton, and not "president" of the CTA. In fact, in a few days, both the MDJ and the League of Women Voters will be publishing information where I take a forthright anti T-SPLOST stand. Quite frankly, "forthright" is the only way I know how to be, and I hope that will bode well for when I win my election to the Austell City Council. If you'd like to learn about my campaign for City Council, please log ontowww.lambertonforcouncil.com In the meantime, thank you for your past and current support of CTA. In liberty, Lance Lamberton 404-925-8960

This coming Monday, October 17, will be the first time you can cast your "Advanced Vote" at the Henry County Board of Elections, 345 Phillips Drive, McDonough, GA 30253. This will be the most serious choice that you will have to make over the course of the next 4 years! Before you mark your computer ballot or complete your on-line military ballot or even submit your absentee ballot .... I ONLY ASK THAT YOU STOP FOR A MINUTE AND THINK ABOUT THE CHOICE YOU ARE ABOUT TO MAKE. WHOMEVER YOU ELECT WILL CLEARLY IMPACT YOUR FUTURE AS WELL AS THE FUTURE OF STOCKBRIDGE. 1) Do you want another 4-years of City Council "in-fighting" where nothing gets done for the betterment of our citizens? 2) Do you want to continue to fund the payment of exorbitant lawyer fees to settle on-going city internal / external disputes? 3) Do you want our city's business climate to continue to falter as it has done under the current regime of city council members? 4) Do you want our city to continue to lose jobs and increase our current unemployment rate from its effective 20.8% to something substantially higher?? 5) Do you want to re-elect city council members who focus on the development of Henry County at the expense of the development of the City of Stockbridge? 6) Do you want city council members who are more concerned about their own "title and self being" rather than to do the work mandated by the citizens who elected them? 7) Do you want people who have DENIED your given right to have Districting to continue to use it as a "bargaining tool?"

YOU CAN CHOSE TO KEEP OUR CITY UNDER THE RULE OF THOSE WHO HAVE FOSTERED ITS DECLINE OR YOU CAN MAKE A CHOICE THAT WILL BRING LIGHT, LIFE, VISION AND VIBRANCY BACK TO OUR GREAT COMMUNITY!

I ASK THAT YOU VOTE FOR RICHARD STEINBERG FOR STOCKBRIDGE CITY COUNCIL.
I PERSONALLY THANK YOU! Respectfully,

RICHARD

Looking into the Abyss

Someone just sent me a memorandum from the Chairman to the Division Directors and Department Heads advising them that Butch Oliver has been selected to be the BoC's new Executive Assistant to the Board of Commissioners. The notice stated that Butch would still do the duties of his present job as Environmental coordinator. Butch just happens to be on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Quality Growth Council (HCQGC). Also, Butch was apart of the "Good Ole Boy" system along with his mother, the former HC Human Resource Director, that was busted up to restore honest and integrity back into HC government.

BJ is going back to the "Good Ole Boy" days that she and Miss Ruby were adamantly against. That means she has turned into the same beast she went after. If you look at all the many places in Henry County government, we find many of the same faces. Someone had to say it. Now someone did.

Supporters of Education SPLOST spread word

By Johnny Jackson
jjackson@henryherald.com

Advocates of the upcoming Education SPLOST renewal spoke at the Henry Council for Quality Growth luncheon on for Wednesday, Oct. 12. The Henry Council for Quality Growth Board of Directors approved a resolution earlier this year, in support of the passage of the one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST III) for education. The SPLOST renewal will be on the Nov. 8 ballot in Henry County. School officials said SPLOST revenues would be used to fund the construction of one new high school, and repair and renovate 44 other public schools in the county, including Eagles Landing High, Stockbridge High, Eagles Landing Middle, and Union Grove Middle, which would receive classroom additions. The SPLOST also calls for technology improvements. Area businessman, Mike Griffin, has advocated for the Education SPLOST renewal, and is spreading the word at public venues. Griffin is chairman of the Committee for Our Childrens Future 2011, a group of Henry County citizens and business people who support renewing the SPLOST. He spoke during a recent Hampton City Council meeting, pointing out to council members that some SPLOST III revenues would go to building a Hampton High School to help relieve the crowding at Luella High School. We speak at PTO [Parent-Teacher Organization] meetings and local civic group meetings, trying to get the word out, Griffin said. Were really fighting apathy. Thats probably our biggest enemy. Its hard to selfmotivate to go out and vote for one item on a ballot. Its a continuation of an existing tax, he added. Were trying to get people to understand that this program has been in place for 14 years. We think its important for folks to understand that most of this SPLOST is focused on reinvesting in existing schools. These things will help improve the quality of our system. And that will, in turn, help improve the quality of our community. To learn more about the Education SPLOST, visit www.henry.k12.ga.us.

POWDER SPRINGS Cobb District 1 Commissioner Helen Goreham said the TSPLOST is now in the voters hands at a town hall meeting this week. At his town hall last week, Commissioner Bob Ott publicly denounced the proposed project list for the 10-year sales tax to pay for roads and transit in a 10-county region, but Goreham said the time for residents to voice their opinions will be during the July 31 referendum. Read more: The Marietta Daily Journal

Bill Kinney: Readers sound off Cobbs hottest issue late this summer and early fall has been the proposal to use the bulk of the countys revenues from the upcoming TSPLOST referendum to build a light rail line connecting the Cumberland Mall area with the Midtown Atlanta MARTA station. Public opinion seems to be overwhelmingly against it, but the Atlanta Transportation Roundtable, which includes Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee and Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews, voted on Thursday to go forward with it. Sounds like Lee and Mathews work for the Obama administration. They will promise one thing and deliver another after they get our money! I have never been so outraged by two elected officials that have their own agenda and totally represent the interest of themselves. Mathews and Lee are going to take our money and run. We have got to vote No to TSPLOT and vote the two arrogant losers out of office. More taxes for what? How the hell are we going to know when our unleaders change the story every day? Before I spend my money I like to know what Im getting. Guess I will call Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. Cant ever get a call back from un-Mayor Mathews and Un-Chairman Lee.

As a single college educated woman with a good job, I cannot afford any more new taxes at the hands of Mathews and Lee. Our property taxes have gone up (thanks Tim) we were screwed on the SPLOST (special election) and now Mark Mathews and Tim Lee are trying to shove this new TSPLOST down our throats. Lets all band together and show them enough is enough. We need and want a true voice for the working people. Ladies and gentlemen please tune in tomorrow to the next episode of AS THE SNAKES SLITHER starring Mark Mathews and Tim Lee. Parental discretion advised. It may not be healthy for your children to witness so much corruption and ignorance! Read more: The Marietta Daily Journal

YOUR VOICE
Each time another candidate has bubbled up and then fallen back, voters have picked anyone but Governor Romney. It is a core challenge that he and his campaign must solve. He has to figure out how to move from being the last choice for the dance to a candidate that folks are excited to take to the dance.

Do not expect any candidate to go anywhere soon. On January 1, 2012, some will get a big financial boost - federal matching funds. Once that happens, Republican voters should strap their seatbelts tightly; it is going to be one wild ride. ~ Randy Evans

Dear Friend & Supporter, America is at a crossroads. With job losses mounting, getting America working again will be job #1 for our next President. Unfortunately, the current occupant of the White House thinks repeating its failed policies of temporary tax gimmicks and increased spending is the answer for our current economic malaise. The good news is, Rick Perry is offering Americans a real choice. As Governor of Texas, Rick Perry has earned a reputation for being America's jobs governor. It's a well-earned honor. Since Rick Perry became governor, over 1 million jobs have been created in Texas, while at the same time, the rest of the country lost 2.5 million jobs. As President, Rick Perry will apply those same economic principles that have worked so well in Texas to creating a climate where job creators can flourish throughout America.

Numbers, guns and God: Things you didnt know about Herman Cain
October 8, 2011, by jgalloway If youre looking for Herman Cains new campaign autobiography, head for a book store in some Democratic enclave. I bought what may have been the last $21 copy of This Is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House (Threshold Editions) in Cobb County, after a three-hour search.

Herman Cain, a Republican presidential candidate, speaks at the Values Voter Summit in Washington on Friday. Stephen Crowley/NYT Even in metro Atlanta, the place where Cain hangs his black cowboy hat, Republicans are in a mad dash to figure out who this fellow is. The surging GOP presidential candidate, of course, was raised in Atlanta. Yet Cain left soon after graduating from Morehouse College in 1967, and didnt re-establish himself in the metro area until 2000, after a far-flung business career. Despite a 2004 run for U.S. Senate, a brief career as a radio talk show host and innumerable tea party appearances, Cains private life hasnt been an open book until now. As literature, campaign autobiographies usually fall short, and Cains is no exception. The former CEO of Godfathers Pizza is a leader, not a reader, he tells audiences. And non-readers rarely make great writers. But as a political document, Cains book tells us many things, large and small, simply because it was churned out by the candidate himself. No ghostwriter was involved: Throughout his book, Cain defines himself as an intuitive risk-taker. Consider the chutzpah required of a 36-year-old African American to dump a vice-presidential slot at Pillsbury and start over at Burger King,

flipping meat on a hot grill. A willingness to gamble lies at the heart of Cains appeal to GOP voters. Never mind his 999 plan that advocates, among other offsets, a 9 percent national sales tax. The last president with no previous political experience was Dwight Eisenhower and one could argue that organizing the D-Day invasion of Europe was a superior vetting experience. For a man born at the leading edge of the baby boomer era, the most notable word missing from Cains 222-page life story is Vietnam. Immediately after graduating from college, Cain took a job as a civilian mathematician for the U.S. Navy in Dahlgren, Va. A spokesman confirmed that the job exempted Cain from the military draft of that era for a while but that his lottery number was never called. His mother Lenora was a maid. His father Luther was the private chauffeur to Coca-Cola CEO Robert Woodruff, without a doubt the most powerful man in Atlanta and beyond. Adhering to his fathers directive to stay out of trouble, Herman Cain took no part in the civil rights protests roiling the city and the South. In interviews this week, the presidential candidate said he was too young to partake. But one suspects a concern over family finances. Luther Cain had fought his way into one of the most prestigious jobs an unschooled black man could hope for in that era. A rabble-rousing son would not have pleased the elder Cains boss. Yet Herman Cain describes his father as anything but a pantywaist. For those familiar with Atlanta history, the most fascinating anecdote in the book deals with Woodruffs gifts to the Luther Cain family. Cash at first, then Coke stock. As the younger Cain tells it, Joe Jones, the fellow who served as Woodruffs valet and the holder of his checkbook, objected to the Coke executives largesse to the Cains. Luther Cain invited Jones outside and showed him the pistol he carried as Woodruffs chauffeur. If you ever tell Mr. Woodruff not to do something for me again, youre going to find out how good I am with this gun, Herman Cain quoted his father as saying. Historians and old Coke hands contacted Friday had never heard of the incident. After his job with the U.S. Navy and earning a masters degree from Purdue University, Cain returned to work for Coke. But he didnt stay long, realizing that he would always be the chauffeurs son. During the citizen band radio craze of the 1970s, Cains chosen handle was Cornbread. He concedes that it could surface again as a Secret Service code name should he get to the White House. Cain believes in both numbers and God. He devotes a chapter of his book to his favorite number: 45, the year of his birth. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2006, Cain took the J that the surgeon drew with his scalpel to remove a third of his colon and most of his liver as a sign that Jesus was watching over him. When you are in the Word, you can listen and hear when God is speaking to you, Cain writes. His younger brother, Thurman Cain, died too soon as a result of alcohol and drug abuse. Herman Cain cant break 80 on the golf course. (Absent from the book is his 2006 recommendation tongue in cheek, hopefully that the GOP groom Tiger Woods for the 2016 presidential campaign.) To test a good pizza operation, order the all-meat pizza. A salty taste means cheap ingredients. Thats one of the little keys to understanding Pizzaology, Cain writes. This, naturally, does not apply to anchovies. - By Jim Galloway, Political Insider

New Ritual at Military Funerals

Today I was incensed at the conclusion of a traditional Serbian-Orthodox funeral for my beloved 85 year old uncle, Daniel Martich, who proudly served in the US Army during The Korean Conflict. During the committal service at a Pittsburgh cemetery the local military detachment performed their ritual, then folded and presented the American Flag to my aunt. As I'm sure you have witnessed during military funerals, a soldier bends to one knee and recites a scripted message to a surviving relative that begins 'On behalf of the President of the United States and a grateful nation, I wish to present you with this flag in appreciation for your husband's service ...'. However, today the dialogue was 'On behalf of the Secretary of Defense and a grateful nation ...' After the service I approached the soldier who presented the flag to my aunt to inquire about the change in language. His response was "The White House notified all military funeral service detachments to immediately remove 'the President' and insert 'the Secretary of Defense' . I couldn't believe what I heard and the soldier smiled and said "You can draw your own conclusion sir but that was the order". He, too, was ashamed of what he was required to say. This president has taken off the gloves. My only response to this endless cesspool of Anti-American rhetoric dripping from his mouth is to borrow a phrase (with one minor change) uttered by another temporary Washington resident living in government housing: "Today for the first time in my adult life I was not ASHAMED of my country". I did not serve in the military but my love of country parallels that of people like my

late uncle who bled Red, White and Blue. As a second generation Serbian-American who's heritage produced many patriotic military men and women who fought for freedom both in The United States as well as in the former Yugoslavia (most recently in Kosovo against the slaughter of Serbs by Muslim extremists) I implore you to make the American people aware of this little-known or, at least, publicly acknowledged fact.

Here are some thoughts from a Stockbridge resident on the City Council race.
I went to the NAACP forum at the Merle Manders Conference Center Thursday night to hear from the candidates - at least the four who showed up. I was there an hour and heard question after question about what each candidate would do for a particular group or about a particular issue if elected. Maybe I missed something, but all I heard was a constant "more government" theme throughout the night. None of the questions or answers I heard had anything to do with reducing the size of government, easing regulations on businesses or individuals, or just getting government out of the way so people can live their lives. Audience members were invited to write questions on index cards and submit them to the panel. Mayor Lee Stuart took advantage of that opportunity, quickly writing down his own submissions and passing them along. Obviously, he has the right to do that just as any other citizen, but it reminded me of the distinct "Survivor"like flavor of this election, with most of the candidates seeming to fall into one of two "alliances" either with the mayor or against him. I wonder how the allegations of late regarding the city's leadership will impact the staff after the election. I heard a rumor that the current city administrator believes his job hinges on the outcome at the ballot box. I don't know if that is true, but if any city staff is thrown out simply on the whim of a new council, such a move can only be described as stupid. The city was hamstrung as much by Ted Strickland's untimely death as by the feuding on the council, making the transition even more difficult, and finding more staff will only cost time and money. I trust that whoever is elected will exercise sound judgment in that regard. Just one voter's two cents. AN INFORMED OBSERVER

Another Stockbridge Voters comments:

Just saw flash up on the right side of my FaceBook page that Kathy Gilbert is now a member of Conservative Republican Women. What do you think of that? I knew she was a friend of BJ...but never knew she was a friend of Sahar. In fact, I remember when she and Sahar were at each others throat. I guess you will do anything for votes.

The Wine Is Served On October 20, 2011

By JillHarris

It hurts the average citizen to be left out of functions where people want their vote. It is like the old movie where the nasty faced children are looking through the window at the rich while they eat. There are people starving in this community and living in the woods and under bridges because the elite chose to take their home instead of working with them to keep them. Elitism is rampant in areas. There are sections all over the county and in surrounding counties where this savage way of living is thriving. Well I see we have more of the same in Stockbridge. And that is people with there nose in the air looking above all us regular people. Mrs. Buschman who is running for City Council is having what she calls a meet and greet, that is fine but she is having it at the Eagles Landing Club. A question is the regular public invited or not it dont say you see this is a private club so whats up with that. I have seen her campaigning and she seems to be very snooty and uppity in my option and having this meet and greet at Eagles Landing confirms this. We have had these types of people in office before and they are not good at all they are out of touch with the common guys like me. Now lets talk about serving wine to the people for 5:30-9:30 4 hours and then they get to drive home, I pray the police will be watching because I fear people will be drunk as skunks at this event. We have too many DUIs in this County with out a Candidate adding to the problem. I have heard a rumor that she used to be the Mayors girl, but they broke up. This could be a big problem I think. I broke up with a girl I worked with and it was very bad for the company I worked for to the point they let both of us go. I can see her causing problems for the Mayor and the City if she gets on the Council. We dont need this; our City needs people that will work with each other to better the City. I do know I got 3 votes to cast for Council, I know one I will vote for but dont know about the other 2. But it will not be for Mrs. Buschman that is for sure.
