Chapter 10.

Nightmare
Claude has opened his eyes after ten days. Obviously, everyone in the palace
scrambles. Athy worries about Claude and wants to see how he's doing. But Lily and
everyone else are very careful of mentioning Claude in front of her because Claude
has no memory of Athy.

When Claude asked who she was, Athy doubted her ears. With her lack of response,
Claude asked Athy once more, "I asked, who are you?" As Claude brought himself up,
he almost fell so Athy touched him for support. When she touched him, however, his
eyes went very cold and shouted for Felix.

Felix was beyond happy to see His Highness awake again. Claude asked the knight why
he was greeting him as if he hasn't seen Claude in ten years. Claude then asked why
Felix looked ten years older.

After having a small talk with Felix, Claude asked why he allowed a stranger to
enter his room. Confused, Claude turned to Athy and asked, "What are you? If you
were a murderer, you should have been ripped to pieces by now."

(So far, Athy has no response because she's too

dumbstruck)

Claude kept asking why someone let in a stranger. Athy couldn't speak from
disbelief, and Felix tried his best to reason with Claude.

Felix kept telling Claude that Athy was his daughter, but Claude was completely
clueless.

Finally, Athy spoke, "Dad," but Claude looked like he was

about to kill her.

"Do you want to die? How dare you call me that!" Claude then coughed up blood, and
Athy was sent away. She was not able to see him again for a while.

Athy's days become very normal afterwards. Her daily schedule consists of eating,
sleeping, eating, sleeping, and so on. After Claude woke up, Felix returned to be
by his side at all times. Athy wonders why Claude has not called her to see him,
but Felix and others keep telling her that Claude still needs to get better.

Athy decides to go for a walk, but the palace people freak out. Athy then looks for
Blackie (the black cat thinw), but is unable to find him anywhere. Thinking that
Claude killed Blackie, Athy storms to see him. When he sees her, however, he still
shows no signs of recognizing her. Athy keeps calling Claude as "Dad, " but Claude
is frustrated and annoyed by her presence. Despite Athy and Felix's efforts
claiming that Athy is Claude's daughter, he only threatens to kill her if they
continue with the "Dad" nonsense. Claude finally warns Athy that if he sees her one
more time, he will definitely kill her. He tells her that if she wants to live, she
better not steps outside of her palace.

After Athy comes back to her room, the fact that Claude lost his memory finally
comes to her. Athy is in utter disbelief. She doesn't know what to do. The way
Claude looked at her made her heart sink.

Felix and others attempt to not let Claude's memory loss get into Athy's heart too
much. They tell her that he'll get better soon, But Athy remembers that she's in a
world of a book. She tells herself that maybe her luck has run out. Later, Felix
tells Athy that Claude didn't kill Blackie. He tried to look for Blackie after her
magic heartburn incident, but the animal was nowhere to be found.
Everyone's worried for Athy, but she tells them she's ok.

Athy cannot help but wonder why it felt like someone was taking things away from
her one by one. However, she soon realizes that she shouldn't think things are
taken away from her because they weren't hers to begin with. Her true self was
always alone behind the name of Athanasia. After concluding that she was alone and
that everything she's had so far was not actually hers, Athy feels calmer.

After organizing her thoughts, her original plan (plan to survive the palace) is
back in motion. She tries to think optimistically: Leaving this palace alive was my
original plan anyway. I've always wanted to be alive with lots of money. So,
everyday afterwards, she would eat three meals a day, read lots of books, go out
for walks, and play with Blue-y (the bird).

One day, a book catches her attention. After opening the book, she reads, "Being
able to use magic is a very rare phenomenon. Only ten people out of a million has
this ability. And only one out of that ten people can use magic at their will."
Then, the book continued, "VERY EASY AND BEGINNER-LEVEL MAGIC! Even dummies can
follow!"

She remembers how Lucas said something about her

She remembers how Lucas said something about her magic, so she attempts to follow
the book According to the book, she only needed to imagine what she desperately
wanted. Athy tries to create a fireball, but nothing happens. She then chants
various ways to create money, but fails several times. Finally, she chants, "Gold
come out, silver come and suddenly, a pile of money flowed right in front of her
eyes! Surprised and in disbelief, Athy first thinks that Lucas was the one who did
the magic. When she realizes that no one's there, however, she murmurs, "Gold come
out, silver come out" again to see more money flowing in front of her. The money
continued to pour out of thin air, and Athy didn't know how to make it stop. After
yelling, "STOP!" money stopped piling on her.

Athy realizes that she indeed has magical abilities, and the fact that Blackie
really is gone hits her. She then thinks about Lucas and Claude. She begins to feel
more empty and lonely after thinking about them. She ends up falling asleep on the
pile of money.

Lily wakes her up later and is in utter disbelief of the scene in front of her.
Lily asks if someone came in the room, but Athy tells her that she's been alone.
She then imagines the pile of money disappearing, and they actually disappeared!
Lily couldn't believe her eyes, and Athy shouts in excitement, "I think I just
became a magician!!" After a few days, Lily gives a pile of letters to Athy, all
forwarded to her. Athy finds that Jennette sent her 5 letters, all written
beautifully and even scented.

After a few days, Lily gives a pile of letters to Athy, all forwarded to her. Athy
finds that Jennette sent her 5 letters, all written beautifully and even scented.
Jennette has written very sincerely and sounded overjoyed to hear that Athy woke up
after the magic heartburn.

(first letter from Jennette)

I'm sending you this letter in hopes that you don’t find it discourteous. After
hearing that you woke up, I was overjoyed. Worried about your illness, I was unable
to rest properly. I prayed every night in hopes that you would wake up.
Other ladies from our meeting are all worried about you too. after His Highness
tried to solve the problem, we were escorted by the knights to leave the palace.
Afterwards, I had to beg my uncle to know that you lost consciousness. Other ladies
simply know that you're unwell. So, I haven't told anyone about what actually
happened to you.

(second letter from Jennette)

I heard that you had asked for my well-being. How could you be so kind? I am not
injured at all, so please do not worry about me. I'm actually worried about you. I
hope you feel better soon. P.S. If it's not discourteous, would it be ok-for me to
send you letters like this time to time?

(third letter from Jennette)

After hesitating, I'm writing a third letter. I hope you forgive me for sending you
letters without your permission. However, you never told me that I couldn’t send a
letter to you so I decided to think that my letters were acceptable to you. If you
find me annoying, please understand with your generous heart. To be honest, this is
my first time sending letters to someone else aside from my family, so I'm nervous
yet excited. Ah, I wrote a letter to Ezekiel when he was studying in Atlanta. But
to him, I'm a family. Speaking of Ezekiel, did you receive a letter from him? He's
also very worried about you, princess. Few days ago, I found an unsent letter to
you from Ezekiel's desk so I knew that he would send a letter to you sooner or
later.

I decided to pretend not to know about this fact, however. Because I, too, am
sending letters to you in secret. So in a way, he and I are friends? Athy finds
Jennette's letters very interesting and fun to read, compared to her first two
letters, Jennette appears to have opened herself to Athy as her writing style
slowly changed into writing for a friend. Even though Athy has read through other
ladies' letters, Jennette's letters are most impactful to her. After searching for
a paper and pen, Athy decides to reply to Jennette: To my dear friend Jennette, I
apologize for the late reply. I have kept your earlier letters with much
preciousness...

Afterwards, Jennette and Athy exchange letters several times. Since Athy basically
has nothing to do all day, she finds herself anticipating for Jennette's letters.
In one of recent letters from Jennette, Athy learns that Jennette's aunt (who was
an evil character in the original story) will be visiting Jennette's place soon.
Jennette cannot hide her excitement to meet her blood-related family member, but
Athy worries about what this woman was up to since she knew the character.

Athy dresses herself to go to her garden to get some fresh air. Now with Felix
staying with Claude, Athy is able to enjoy the garden by herself. After walking
through her rose garden, Athy walks to where she and Claude used to

enjoy the garden by herself. After walking through her

rose garden, Athy walks to where she and Claude used to
enjoy tea together. One of her servants has prepared a
small cake a tea for Athy already, and she begins to have
bittersweet thoughts.
"Today is His Highness' birthday, " Lily comments as she
brushes Athy's hair. Athy, knowing that she will not be
invited to Claude's birthday party, apathetically
comments, "Yeah, everyone will be busy today." Lily
comments how there will be a grand party at Garnet
Palace (where Claude usually resides), and Athy expresses
lack of interest since she won't be attending anyway.
Later, several knights storm into the Emerald Palace and
demand Princess Athanasia to come along with them.
"We have been ordered by His Highness to drag the
princess in front of him." (a knight)
"Drag the princess! How dare you say that in front the
princess herselfl" (Lily)
"If you do not wish to meet His Highness' wrath, please
move aside."
"I cannot do that! I will not let you touch the princess...!"
(gets shoved)
Athy is dragged to the Garnet Palace by the knights and is
knelt in front of Claude.
Claude, with his cold gaze, cooly comments, "Athanasia. I
saved your life by expressing my benevolence which does
not fit me. But in a day like this, your foul name has
tainted my ears. What should I do withyou."

Upon his words, everyone in the palace shivers with fright.

Felix, who's standing next to Claude, yells at him for
treatingthe princess with such words. But Claude looks
over at Felix and threatens to kill Felix too for going
against his words.
Then, Claude turns to one of the politicians next to him
and asks what this girl is
("what," not "who"... cries) and
the politician is unable to answer. After few minutes, the
politician carefully opens his mouth and says, "She's
Princess Athanasia of Obelia who Your Majesty
proclaimed."
Claude then replies, "Wrong. That girl is neither my
daughter nor a princess. I have, never for a moment,
thought she was my daughter."
At that moment, Athy realizes that she had become the
Athanasia from the original book
Claude continues, "That being kneeling in front of me is
merely a poor and insignificant criminal. So, if anyone
calls her a princess near my presence, I will condemn
them as a criminal and will kill you. Ha! What a name,
Athanasia. I told you last time I saw your face that 'next
time I see you, I will kill you for sure'. However, I am not
in the mood to see blood, so how unfortunate. I have lost
my interest. Today's party will end here. Remove that girl
out of my sight."
Felix then runs over to Athy and kneels in front of Claude,
begging him to punish him instead. But the knights are
already on Athy/s side to drag her away. Athy does not
back down however, and decides to properly greet His
Majesty.
To the knights, Athy demands, "I have never allowed you

To the knights, Athy demands, "I have never allowed you

to touch me! Even without your command, I will leave
with my will." Since she was dragged to the Garnet Palace,
her appearance is untidy and ill prepared. She is the
shabbiest person in that room, but she's determined to
leave with dignity and grace.
Athy greets Claude not as his daughter, but as a Princess
of Obelia. She begins, "Please forgive me for not
preparing a fitting gift for you on a grand day like this. It
appears that my presence is ruining your mood, so this girl
will leave now. Bless you from Obelia's sun and glory.
Happy birthday from the bottom of my heart, Your
Highness."
Nobody dares to utter a word. Athy turns around and
leaves the room.
The Garnet Palace's hallway is extremely quiet, with
Athy's clacking heels echoing the hallway. Before long,
Athy almost sprains her ankle and falls on the side of the
hallway. She doesn't understand how she came out of that
room, and now she feels like throwing up.
Soon, she hears someone call her. Apparently, this lad
was not afraid to go against Claude's words. "Please
excuse me for a moment," says Ezekiel and he fixes Athy's
shoes. With careful hands, Ezekiel helps Athy with her
shoes, and Athy breaks down crying.
Athy cries because she was hurt by Claude's words. He
denied her. Initially, she knows that she tricked Claude in
order for her to survive. So all the time she's spent with
him were all lies, all just for survival. But unknown to her,
she must have had real feelings for Claude. Athy should
have known better. She should have always known that

have known better. She should have always known that

she will always alone at the end. Everything she had as
"Athanasia" were not actually hers. She should not have
been so greedy.
Athy believes she was fine with Claude's memory loss, but
she actually had a very difficult time. She wishes that she
never knew such sweetness (the times she spent with
Claude) because otherwise, she wouldn't have her
loneliness to compare to.
"Please don't look at me like that. I'm not crying," sobs
Athy. Ezekiel replies, "Yes, I did not see anything." And
they stayed together in silence for a while.
Chapter 10.5 After the Party
Mr. White Doggie runs after his son, Ezekiel. Ezekiel must
have a death wish! he thinks. Mr. White Doggie lectures
his son, but Ezekiel disagrees with his father.
"Father, I do not have the courage to see her tears," says
Ezekiel. "I also do not have the courage to forgive whoever
makes her cry." Mr. White Doggie cannot believe that
Ezekiel has feelings for the princess. Ezekiel tells his
father upfront that he will not let anyone harm or go
against Princess Athanasia.
Few days after the party, Athy and one of her servants
Seth talk about ways to bring Claude's memory back. Seth
mentions how she should hit Claude's head with a silver
tray, and Athy speaks of wishing to meet with one of the
Tower Magicians who can maybe work with black magic.
