1. Define the following terms in cement concrete concept

2. Why mild steel carbon steel type is the common metal used in construction
industry especially in reinforced concrete structure?
3. What type of admixture would you recommend to be used
i) To facilitate concreting hot weather and
ii) For protecting hard concrete against cycles of freezing and thawing? Justify
your reason?
4. What are the factors affecting the quality and strength of cement?
5. What does it mean by concrete mix design? What is the purpose of concrete mix
design?
6. Using ACI method, determine the relative proportion of the ingredients of cement
concrete for the first floor slab of 3m by 4m and depth of 150mm and reinforced
bars are of diameter 10mm spaced center to center at 150mm in both directions.
A 28 days comprehensive strength of 25Mpa is specified with the following
aggregate properties.
Coarse Aggregate
- Bulk Density ( B) =1400kg/m3
- A sample weighs 200gm; it weighs 2100gm when surface saturated dry (SSD)
condition and weighs 1000 gm after oven d ry.
Fine Aggregate
- Bulk Density ( ) = 1400kg/m3
- A sample weighs 1000 gm; it weighs 1100gm after surface saturated dry and 800gm
after oven dry.

Assume Fineness modulus of the aggregate is 2.7 and % Air-entrained

concrete.
