Semi-Detailed Lesson

In English Grade 7

I. Learning Competency:
EN7VC-I-c-3.1.3: Give the meaning of given signs and symbols (road signs,
prohibited signs, etc.)

II. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify and explain the meaning of various signs and symbols
2. Create their own sign or symbol based on a given scenario
3. Understand the purpose and importance of signs and symbols.

IV. Learning Experiences:


A. Preparation
 The teacher will begin the day by leading a brief inclusive prayer,
respecting and acknowledging diverse religious and belief systems. This
will be followed by warm greetings to foster a sense of connection and
community. Attendance will be taken before commencing the lesson to
ensure everyone's presence is accounted for.
 The teacher will ask for a brief review or recap of last meeting’s lesson
regarding what they actually learned all throughout. The teacher will then
process and give feedback on the stated response/s.
 The teacher will start the session with a game to engage the learners with
the lesson by giving experiential concept. The game is called “Sign Hunt?”
 The teacher will divide the class into two groups and assign them the task
of finding hidden signs within the classroom. Once the signs are found,
each group will match the symbols or signs with their corresponding
meanings or purposes presented on the board. The group that correctly
aligns the most signs with their meanings or purposes will be declared the
winner.

B. Presentation
 The teacher will ask the students what they think will the lesson be about
based on the activity
 The teacher will now present the objectives of the lesson.
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify and explain the meaning of various signs and symbols
2. Create their own sign or symbol based on a given scenario
3. Understand the purpose and importance of signs and symbols.

C. Assimilation
 Following the introductory activity, the teacher will proceed with the
lesson. Using the symbols and signs that were aligned with their
respective meanings and purposes, the teacher will engage the students
in a discussion. Each example will be presented, and the teacher will
explain its meaning and emphasize its importance in different contexts.
D. Generalization
The teacher will engage the students in a discussion about the characteristics of
signs and symbols. Prompt them with questions such as:
 What do signs and symbols communicate?
 How are signs and symbols different from words?
 Why are signs and symbols important in our daily lives?

E. Application
 The teacher will then instruct the students to think of a situation, social
issue, or life experience and create a symbol or sign based on that
experience or situation. The students will provide a short explanation on
how they come up with that sign/symbol and why they chose that
experience/situation.
 The teacher will provide a rubric for this activity.

desired information or message.
5-6 points: Fair The created sign/symbol is somewhat
effective in conveying the intended
message or meaning in relation to the
given situation or experience. The design
is somewhat planned and clear, but lacks
creativity or originality. The sign/symbol
has limited impact in effectively
communicating the desired information or
message.
1-4 points: Poor The created sign/symbol is unclear or
does not effectively convey the intended
message or meaning in relation to the
given situation or experience. The design
is poorly planned, visually confusing, and
lacks creativity or originality. The
sign/symbol has little or no impact in
effectively communicating the desired
information or message.
