COMPLEX ANALYSIS: HOMEWORK 10

DUE BY 23:59:59 ON TUESDAY 05/12/2023 VIA MOODLE

(1) Compute explicitly the Möbius transformations determined by the following cor-
respondences of triples
(a) (1 + i, 2, 0) 7→ (0, ∞, i − 1);
(b) (∞, 1 + i, 2) 7→ (0, 1, ∞);
(c) (1, 2, ∞) 7→ (0, 1, ∞);
(d) (1, i, −1) 7→ (1, 0, −1).
Use matrices to find the inverses to all these Möbius transformations.
(2) Consider the Möbius transformation that maps −1 to −i, 1 to 2i, and i to 0.
Determine the image of the unit circle ∂D1 (0) = {z : |z| = 1}, the image of the
open unit disk D1 (0) = {z : |z| < 1}, and the image of the interval [−1, 1] on the
real axis. Illustrate with a sketch.
(3) Consider the Möbius transformation that maps 1 to i, 0 to 1 + i, and −1 to
1. Determine the image of the unit circle ∂D1 (0) = {z : |z| = 1}, the image of
the open unit disk D1 (0) = {z : |z| < 1}, and the image of the imaginary axis.
Illustrate with a sketch.
