How to Contact a Librarian

Method 1
1. Visit https://library.appstate.edu/
2. On the left hand side of the page under the “Connect” section click “Find your
Librarian

3. After you are on the “Find your Librarian” page, locate the College and
Departments page and scroll until you find “College of Fine and Applied Arts”
4. Simply click the name associated with your intended field, in this example we will
be using Art. Once clicking Alex McAllister’s name, a personal page will appear
presenting contact information.
Method 2
1. Visit https://library.appstate.edu/
2. Under the “Connect” tab, click the “Meet” link as it will bring you to a page
where you can schedule an appointment either virtual or in person.

3. Once on the meet page select “In-Person” from the drop down menu on
the top of the page. From here you can select a time/date that works for
you

4. After clicking on the continue button, you will then confirm your
appointment.
Peer Reviewed Academic Journals in Film Studies
Discipline
1. Visit https://library.appstate.edu/
2. Under the search section, click the blue “Advanced Search” link

3. On the top of the page, type “Film Studies” into the search bar, and then
press search
4. On the left hand side under “Source Types” check the box that is marked
“academic Journals”

5. Then you will be presented with the top academic Journals listed under
film studies. Top 5 academic journal results- “A Guide to Graphic Design
for Function versus Experiential Ads Color” “Graphic Design and
Transformative Learning: How a Logo Design Can Be a transformative
Experience” “Destroy all Humans- The Dematerialisation of the Designer
in an Age of Automation and its impact on Graphic Design- A literature
Review” “Design of artistic graphic symbols based on intelligent guidance
marketing system”
6. To then find a peer-reviewed article under the same theme, simply check
the box that says “Peer-reviewed articles” on the left hand side. This will
put a “limiter” on your search results ensuring they are all peer-reviewed
articles under the same theme

Two examples of these peer reviewed articles are: “Special Dossier:


French Film Studies in Australia” “Gotham Book Mart’s Spring 1938 Film
File Catalog”

How to Find Trade Journals for Film Studies


Discourse
1. Visit https://library.appstate.edu/
2. Type “Film Studies” into the search box in the middle of the screen,
and click search

3. Once brought to the next page, scroll down until you see Source
Types on your left hand side. Check the box that says “Trade
Publications”
6. From here, you will be presented with a list of trade publications for Film
Studies
Trade Publications for Film Studies: “The Top 25 American Film Schools”
“The Camera ‘Writes’, in a way”

How to Access DataBases for Film Studies


Discourse
1. Visit https://library.appstate.edu/
2. Under the “Research” tab in the middle of the page, click the link
that says “Databases- Browse by subject or keyword”

3. On the next page, scroll down to the section labeled “By Subject”
and you will see the link for “Film Studies”. Click this link
4. From here you will see all of the Databases listed for the Film
Studies Discourse
Relevant Databases for Film Studies: “Film and Television
Literature Index with Full Text” “Performing Arts periodicals

How to Access Library Videos


1. Go to library.appstate.edu to access the Library webpage
2. Click the research tab on the top right hand corner of the page. Under this
tap, select “Video Tutorials”

3. This will lead you to the page where you can view the Library video
resources

Film studies research, a vibrant and ever-evolving discipline, dives into the aspects of cinema, from its
historical roots to its artistic nuances and cultural influence. In this effort, ethical considerations play a
pivotal role. Researchers must be constantly aware about respecting copyright laws, promoting diversity
in representation, obtaining informed consent when dealing with human subjects, and upholding
academic integrity through proper citation practices.

Navigating the terrain of film studies research is not without its challenges. Accessing primary materials
can be challenging due to restrictions or limited availability. Because film studies involves different areas
of Knowledge, it requires a wide understanding of various subjects. Keeping up with the ever-changing
technology used to analyze films can also be quite challenging.Yet, within these challenges lie the goals
of film studies research. It seeks to foster a deep understanding of cinema as an art form, critically
analyze its cultural significance, contribute fresh insights to the field, and engage with contemporary
