Where Should Capital Letters Go?

Content Objective: Students will be able to edit and


create new writing that uses correct capitalization for
start of sentences and proper nouns.

Language Objective: Students will be able to identify


proper nouns in order to capitalize them in writing.

Students will be able to identify capitalization errors


in writing to make corrections.

Capitalization means using capital, or upper-case,
letters. Capitalization usually only happens for
the first letter of certain words.

Proper Nouns are the names of specific people, places, or
things. We also capitalize days of the week, months of the year,

When do we capitalize?
Beginning of Sentence
Whenever you start a new sentence, you must capitalize
the first letter of the first word.

the bird uses its wings to fly.

The personal pronoun “I” should always be capitalized.
