PTSD- When a traumatic event occurs, it can mess with

your brain and sleep, causing nightmares.
Scientists believe an overactive brain part, the
locus coeruleus, might be the troublemaker,
releasing a chemical called noradrenaline during
REM sleep (when dreams happen). This messes
with how your brain handles scary stuff, making
you wake up distressed.
