Open your Dutch bank

account

Dear student,
Welcome international students!
International students of Avans University of Applied Sciences are able to open
a student account at the Rabobank in Breda. The Rabo student account
features a bank card to be used at ATM’s and shops in The Netherlands and
Europe. It also provides you with access to internet banking on computer and
smartphone. We can also offer you the recommended insurances for your stay
in the Netherlands at discounted rates.

Insurances in the Netherlands

Studying in the Netherlands can mean that you are obliged to take out
insurance. We offer you a package deal for the insurances you need in the
Netherlands. The insurances you will need during your stay in the Netherlands
are a Liability Insurance and a (House) Contents Insurance (fire and theft).
With your Rabobank Student account these two insurances will only cost you
about € 8,- / month!

Do I need to open a Dutch bank account?

If you have a bank account in a country that is not a member of the Single
Euro Payments Area (SEPA)* you are advised to open a Dutch bank account.
If you have a bank account in a country that is a member of Single Euro
Payments Area (SEPA)* maybe you can use your own account, more
information at the international student desk of Avans.
* SEPA member countries include all EEA member states plus Monaco and
Switzerland.

How to open a Dutch bank account?

1. If you are a student from : The Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Belgium,
Spain, Greece, Bulgaria, France, Portugal, Ireland, Slovakia, Croatia, Czech
Republic, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Slovenia you can open your account
online :

2. If you are a student from a non-EU country or an EU country not mentioned

above please send the following documents to students.breda@rabobank.nl
1) Registration form (see attachment)
2) Copy of passport or EU ID card (copy of the personal details page(s) of
your passport or your EU ID card (both sides)
3) BSN: The BSN is the number you receive when you register with the town
hall in your town or city of residence (social security number). The BSN
number indicates you ‘Burger Service Nummer’. It is a legal requirement to
provide the bank your BSN.
4) Copy of Migration letter (IND) or copy of valid residence permit (only for
studentswith a non-EU nationality).
5) CRS form (Common Reporting Standard, see attachment)The CRS is a
system for automatic exchange of information on financial accounts between
CRS participating countries. On behalf of CRS, Dutch law requires all financial
institutions, such as Rabobank, to determine the foreign tax residence of their
clients. Please always mark ‘yes’ at the question ‘Are you a tax
resident in the Netherlands’. Activation of your bank account
Upon receipt of your completed banking forms Rabobank will set up your bank
account. Once your account is ready you will receive an email for the signing
of your new account. Please make sure you also bring along your passport
and BSN document on that day.
