ABSTRACT
Press tools are wont to manufacture a selected part in massive quantity, out of sheet metals wherever
particular component achieved depends upon press tool construction and its configuration. the various styles
of press tool constructions results in different operations specifically blanking, bending, piercing, forming,
drawing, cutting off, parting off, embossing, coining, notching, shaving, lancing, dinking, perforating, trimming,
curling etcetera usually metals having thickness under 6mm is thought of as strip. Metals having thickness
larger than 6mm is considered as plate. In Piercing and notching the desired form boundary is cut in the work
piece material. The press tool used is for Piercing operation is termed as Piercing Tool.

The application of press operations are wide utilized in several industries like food processing, packing,
defense, textile, automobile, craft associate degreed many excluding producing industry. during this
association an try is formed on to find out the press tool style, materials, manufacturing used for press tool
and calculations concerned in it. during this work, a true time design of an easy piercing press tool and
manufacturing of a epitome is made at the side of static analysis of punch wherever the output could be a
Pierce hole and notch hole. The press machine is of mechanical kind of 200ton. Here the drawback statement
of project is 2 mix these two piercing and notching operation. that is currently producing singly i.e. two
piercing by one punch and two notching operation with another punch.

I. INTRODUCTION
Metal forming is one of the production processes with almost no debris. These operations are mainly
carried out through presses and stamping tools. These operations include the application of pressure or
force to deform metal parts into the desired size and shape. You will be considered for production work
The fastest and most effective way to transform sheet metal into finished products. The task of the project
is to combine these two drilling and grooving operations. Now it is made separately, that is, one punch has
two perforations and the other punch has two notches.

III. MODELING AND ANALYSIS

Die: A Die is associate assemblage of elements used for manufacturing totally different sheet elements.
Die is additionally referred to as press tool because the dies are used on differing types of presses supported the
cutting forces needed for the component.
During this project a blanking die, piercing die, drawing die is made for production of Bracket utilized in
supporting the fuel tank of an automobile. Before venturing into creating of die, the die making depends on
several factors. Below given are the details concerning die to press relationships, die sets, strippers.
Die to press relationships:
Press Shut height: The press shut height is usually measured with the press stroke with the lowest spatial relation
position. In considering most shut heights, the ram adjustment is up at its highest stroke down position. In
considering minimum shut heights, the ram adjustment is down with the ram extended to its lowest position.

capability of press:
The force in kg new tons indicates the capacity of press ram will exert on work piece safely. If the capacity of
force is expressed in tones of force, then it's referred as ‘press tonnage.
Feed Height:
For dies, that are fed manually, the fed height isn't critical. however ever, once dies are utilized in conjunction
with automatic feeding devices, the peak of the stock line of the die should be with within the vary permissible
by feeding device.

IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

a. PIERCING FORCE CALCULATION

The piercing force or cutting force is that the force needed to punch a blank. This determines the
capability of the press to be used for the tool.
F = p x t x fus

Where,
F – Blanking force
(N) p – Perimeter
(mm)

t – Thickness of sheet (mm)

Fus – Ultimate shear strength of sheet (N/mm2)

F = 150 x 0.5 x 58
Blanking Force, F = 5220 N

b. PRESS CAPACITY
The rated capability of press is that the force that the slide or ram can exert close to very cheap of the
stroke.
Capacity = 1.1 of Piercing force

(10% more than blanking force)
Capacity = 5742 / (9.81 x 1000) = 0.60 ton
Press Capacity (Tonnage) = 0.60 Ton
Blank force = 5220 N

a. DIE OPENING DIMENSIONS

Die is one in every of the cutting parts of a piercing tool. It admits the punch to enter sure cutting action.
For blanking process, die dimensions are same because the output component.

Slot Length = 50 mm

Slot Width = 25 mm (Radius 12.5mm)

a. PUNCH DIMENSIONS
Punch is that the different cutting component of a blanking tool. It exerts a force on the strip material placed
on the die to punch the required contour.

Length = (Dimension – 2 x clearance) Width = (Dimension – 2 x clearance) Clearance = C x t x √ (Fus/10)

[C = constant 0.01, t = thick of sheet, fus = shear strength of sheet]

Length= (50 – 2 x 0.01 x 0.5 x √300/10) = 49.94 mm

Width= (25 – 2 x 0.01 x 0.5 x √300/10) = 24.94 mm

Punch Length= 49.94 mm Punch Width = 24.94 mm

V. CONCLUSION
From the on top of project it's finished that once we ought to turn out the components in profusion with
minimum adjustment it is best appropriate to travel with the tool and die with exploitation applicable
machine. Die style ought to be done per perform and operation required. The calculations concerned in die
design are studied from above analysis.
