First Flight
1. Why was the young seagull afraid to fly? Do you think all young birds are
afraid to make their first flight, or are some birds more timid than others? Do
you think a human baby also finds it a challenge to take its first step?

Answer: The young seagull was afraid to fly because it was his first flight and he feared
of falling and hurting himself. He thought that his wings would not support him while flying.
Yes, it is natural that doing something for the first time is a bit challenging and fearful. All
birds must be afraid to make their first flight.
Similarly, a human baby is also afraid of taking the first step and find it challenging when he
learns to crawl or stand up without support.’
2. Why did Anne think she could confide more in her diary than in people?

Answers: She could confide in her close friend but she didn’t have one, the friends
she had there were to have more fun and good times rather than the ones on whom
she could confide. She also believes that a paper to have more patience than people,
so she decided to write and confide in a diary.

3. Where in the classroom does Wanda sit and why?

Answer: Wanda Petronski used to sit in the seat next to the last seat in the last row
in Room Thirteen. She sat in the corner of the room where the rough boys who did
not get good marks sat. She was a poor and shy girl and sat at that place because
her feet were usually caked with dry mud. She did not want to be laughed at for her
appearance by others, so she preferred to sit alone in the corner.

4. What ‘experiment’ did Maxwell think Camusfearna would be suitable for?

Answer: Maxwell had travelled to Southern Iraq in 1956 and he fancied the idea of
keeping an otter as a pet instead of a dog. He thought Camusfearna was surrounded
by water that was a stone’s throw from its door. So, it would be an eminently suitable
spot for this ‘experiment’.
